Dog Shelters/Cockapoos
My mom would really really like to have a cockapoo. She has fallen in love with this mixed breed but doesn't begin to know where to look for one and can't afford to "buy". Are there shelters for this particular breed?

I grew up with a cockapoo...and now my MIL has one. They are extremely lovable and smart dogs!!! Good luck!

Just a thought but if she can't afford to buy a dog (and by no means do I think she should buy one) does she think she has the money to raise a dog? Just something to think about.......there can be alot of unexpected costs when taking care of a pet......
hope it works out for the best.......and she finds what she wants.....

it's completely different. byb/pm's sell these dogs for a ridiculous amount of money. who wants to spend that much money?? (especially when you can be saving a dog's life in a shelter) yes.. dogs cost money (i have 3!) but you can't even compare the cost of buying a dog and the cost of the dog's life. i have 3 and honestly spend about $40 a month on food, about $350 or so for heartworm meds for a year, and i don't really know the cost of the vet but you only go once a year unless there's problems.

Re: Dog Shelters/Cockapoos
i might actually have a dog for you! i work at a groomer salon and a guy came in today to get his dog groomed and he was looking to get rid of her. he had major back surgery and he claims he can't take care of her because she pulls on walks (theres training for that) i'll ask my manager if the guy left his information. her name is megan and she's absolutely adorable!!! she's black & white and was pretty good on the grooming table. i think she's a "puppy" (under a year) so that's why she's a little hyper. if you want i'll find out for you. just let me know

Re: Dog Shelters/Cockapoos
check out petfinder.com. they probably don't have "cockapoo" specifically but if you look up cocker spaniel and poodle you'll ifnd mixes there.
you might also keep an eye out at your local shelters, because all kinds of dogs come through them. if you let them know what you're looking for they might also keep an eye out for you.
i got a schnoodle from a shelter. of course, at the time i had no idea that he was a "designer" breed, he was just a cute mutt that i fell in love with
