Have you ever owed before?

For me, I always make sure to get more than enough taken out so that I never end up having to owe at the end of the year. So, if this happened to me I would definitely be confused!

I would just try another free online program, like taxcut or taxact. TT is typically pretty accurate.

I found Turbo Tax to be fine.

I had issues putting info in one year so we went to an accountant, I got $100 more from the accountant, but had to pay $100 for their service. I would just stick to Turbo Tax.

ETA We owe for the first time this year too since DH is didn't go to college last year.

have you owed before?

did you have big changes this year--such as an increase in income, home purchase, IRA distrubutions, etc?

do you have to use a Schedule C for business income or received a 1099-Misc?

did you go over everything step by step?

there are many variables that can changes your taxes from one year to the next. FM me if you have more questions.
