Milk allergy

My son was just diagnosed today with a milk allergy....the dr said to hold off as long as I can to start cereal and solids, because babies with milk allergies are more prone to have other allergies.

I know he has a soy allergy, because when we tried a soy formula, he broke out in a rash and hives.

If your child has a milk allergy, do they have any other allergies? If so, which ones? Thanks!!

My older daughter was diagnosed with a milk allergy at 9 months old when we gave her yogurt for the first time. She had a HORRIBLE reaction complete with face swelling, drooling, and hives. She'd been EBF which is why it took so long to get diagnosed.

She is also allergic to:cats, a mild allergy to egg whites (but she can eat it when cooked within foods), and beef. I don't know how the beef thing came to be- but I suspected she had another allergy to SOMETHING she hadn't been previously tested for when she had recurring diaper rashes.

DD had a milk protein intolerance, which is different from a true allergy. Milk protein would cause her intestines to bleed. A true allergy would cause a different reaction, such as anaphylaxis.

DD did not (as far as we know so far) have any other allergies or intolerance. She had a milk challenge at 12 months and is no longer intolerant. We were very diligent not to give her milk products after the diagnosis (which from what I remember was around 6 weeks old? ) because the longer they are off of them, the more chance of outgrowing it. We haven't introduced nuts or shellfish yet b/c of family histories, but we're hopeful she will be fine.

My friends daughter has a true milk allergy (meaning, carrying the epi pen everywhere they go, etc.). She also has other suspected food allergies (eggs) based on a combination of bloodwork and skin tests.

I'm surprised your ped recommended that you try soy when there was a possible milk problem? That is not common b/c introducing soy too soon when there is a milk problem can actually cause a soy allergy. We were told to hold off on all soy until 9 months, which we did, and then DD's digestive system had matured enough to prevent any problems with it.

We weren't told to hold off on introducing foods. We were, however, told to introduce foods in a different order than most, and to wait 1 week between introducing new foods rather than the usual 3 days. Frustrating, but seemed to work fine.

My cousin's son has a severe allergy to milk. He was diagnosed at 4 months with the allergy. He is also allergic to eggs (whites and yollks) He is also allergic to cats and dogs.

He ate candy corns and broke out in hives and was sick. Was rushed to the doctor and found out candy corns are made with egg whites.

He is 3 and the doctors are hoping for him to grow out of this allergy.

ETA: Her doctor also told her she has to cut out milk and eggs a few weeks before giving birth (she is pregnant with baby number 2) and while she is breast feeding absolutely no milk or eggs. He also allergic to cashews

DS is only allergic to dairy, I've taken him to 2 different allergists to be sure since I have multiple food allergies and was surprised that he didn't also. Both of them told me that dairy allergies actually rarely result in anaphylaxic reactions, but it can happen so we have to carry an epi-pen just in case. So far his reactions have been ulcerative colitis.

My ds was put on Neocate formula, which is amino acid based rather than soy or dairy based.

My son is severely allergic to dairy and bananas.

My nephew is also allergic to dairy and also has a peanut and egg allergy as well.
