How can I get an animal out of the attic?
I heard it last night right over my head. It even woke DS. 
When I went to check this morning I didn't see or hear anything. Do I just figure it was a one time thing and move on? We have had a racoon appear on our deck a few times in the past few days. Not sure if it could be the animal I heard in the attic.
Any advice? TIA!

any holes that the little guy could have fell into? my sis inlaws had one and found it had fallen into a hole some where on roof.. only way to get it out was to shoot it.. sorry.

we had 2 raccoons in my parents house once--there was a hole on the side of the house. DH climbed up into the crawlspace and used a long pole from one of those skimmers for the pool and kind of poked them back out the hole they came and then they closed up the hole in the side of the house. they are likely sleeping there to stay warm

We had squirrels in our attic when we moved into the house (thanks for that previous owners!), so after a few nights of freaking out the cats by listening to them run around up there chasing each other, we called an exterminator who trapped them and set them free elsewhere.

Get a Havahart trap from home depot, bait it and trap it. Raccoons love marshmellows, FYI.
This is a good time of year to trap it because they aren't breeding yet so you know there are no little ones.
Once you catch it, drive far far away to a park and let it go. When you are sure there are no more left seal up your attic.
Please don't call an exterminator. They cost more than the trap and will kill the animal.
ETA: I've heard horror stories about exterminators drowning the raccoons in garbage cans.

Ray said to put a portable radio up there & turn it to an AM talk station & it'll drive them out.

legally... you are not allowed to shoot it... you need licence and permits...

may i ask what exterinator you used? because squirrles can find their way back.... from far away... therefore most of the exterminators... uhm... exterminate them....
