who is adopting?
any one else here actively in the process of adopting?
I thought maybe we could have an update thread.
We were certified in september, trying to complete a private domestic adoption. Satrted advertising then, Currently waiting for the phone to ring, but this has been a looonnngg and  wait.
We have lots of ads starting next week so  the phone rings
Anyone else?

good luck!! we aren't in the process yet, but we'll probably be starting later this year.
i've known since i was young that i can't have bio kids.... i always wanted to adopt from China, but with the wait getting to be close to 3 years.... we're probably gonna go the domestic route.
i'm soo not looking forward to the wait, and all the paperwork!! did you have to do an adoption profile? thats what i'm not looking forward to! i'm SO not creative and not looking forward to have to "Sell" myself on paper!
are you using a lawyer or an agency? i hope your wait is short! good luck!!

we are going to a seminar next week sponsored by Suffolk County Social Services to adopt through the foster system.

good luck!! we aren't in the process yet, but we'll probably be starting later this year.

ooh ok! maybe its different going through a lawyer. in starting to look at agencies, it looks like the agency has you create basically a scrapbook type thing that they show to birthmoms. with pictures of you, your house, your neighborhood... and you have write about it all- how you met, your upbringing, how you plan to raise your kids, etc. its all important stuff- but i'm just soo not creative, so we'll see how it goes!
did you have to have a homestudy done by a social worker, too? how was that?

If you are interested in possibly adopting through Suffolk County Social Services, call 631-854-9454. They have several information seminars a month..these are the next ones I know about:
January 10 10am-12pm
January 15 7pm-9pm
February 19 - 7pm-9pm
February 28 10am-12pm
There were more but I knew I'd never be able to make them so I only wrote down the ones that were a possibility.
I am going January 15. The office is in Ronkonoma on Vets Hwy.

the home study was a breeze

My DH and I adopted our 2 children domestically. Good Luck on your adoption journey. Always remember it will happen.

DH & I are in the process of adopting a baby girl from Korea. She will be our second from Korea. DS came home in 12/06. We expect her to come home any week now!!!  Adoption is such a wonderful way to build a family. We are all so blessed!
