PreNatal Massage?

I think in Nassau county and my back has been KILLING me! Anyone know of a good (and not TOO expensive) place for a prenatal massage?

And how do the prenatal massages work anyway?

Re: PreNatal Massage?

as long as you are not in your first trimester you should be fine for one.

I personally LOVE Massage Envy - i go to the one near my house in Jersey - but got my dad a gift certificate for the one in Commack and he LOVED IT and became a member....

Re: PreNatal Massage?

I just got one last weekend. At first i layed on my back and then I layed on each side. I didn't lay on my belly. Other than that it's basically all the same without the concentrated back massage.

Without ANY back massage or without it all being a back rub? That's the part of me that hurts the most. Chat Icon

Re: PreNatal Massage?

I am going to body works spa in floral park, they have a great masseuse there that does pre natal massages.

also- butterfly garden spa in great neck has great prenatal massages, but more expensive than body works!

No, they massaged my back and my hips too which was nice, but since I was laying on my side it wasn't as pressured as it would normally be if you were laying on your belly. I think some places have a special table where you can lay on your belly, but the spa I went to didn't.

Re: PreNatal Massage?

I went to Rain in woodbury. It was amazing and I totally plan to go back! They have special foam pillows that you lay on with a hole in the middle for your belly so that they can massage your back properly. I highly recommend them! The therapist I had was Jodi and she was great!

Re: PreNatal Massage?

I went to Rain in Woodbury with my first pregnancy.
The second pregnancy I went to Sandalwood Day Spa in Massapequa.

Both were wonderful. Sandalwood was cheaper.

Most places will not do a massage in your 1st trimester. Mostly because it's a "crucial" time and liability.

A lot (if not most!) places will require a Dr.'s note. So call ahead to make sure of their policy.

They can use a special pillow so you can lay down face down but it is usually only used until you are 5 months PG. A lot of spas do not use the pillow.

After 16 weeks (and if they don't use the belly pillow) you will lay down on your left side.

There is NO deep work in any pregnancy massage.

Reflexology is contra-indicated

You can have your back massaged but again there is no deep work.

Make sure you are massaged by a massage therapist certified in pregnancy massage.

I also went to Sandalwood. The prenatal massage is $80 for 60 min.

Re: PreNatal Massage?

RUN and get one...it's so awesome!

I went to the Cactus Salon in Plainview. She had me lay on one side, then the other. She massged my back, but not deeply. It was amazing...and really reasonable...$40 for a half hour, which is the rate for a regular massage, too (just tell them you want a prenatal). If you want the masseuse's name, let me know!

I had one at Sandalwood a few weeks ago and loved it. You can fall asleep hugging the body pillow. It wasn't deep but it was good enough and she ask if she was putting too much pressure. It was very relaxing.

Re: PreNatal Massage?

I had a great one at Red Door Spa in Garden City about a month ago

it was awesome--they did the front massage the same as a regular except my legs were a bit elevated

then they had me lay on my side and hold a body pillow while they worked on my back

i loved it
