Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes? ...

For those with GD, how long did you have to do the self-monitoring blood test?

Was it everyday until you deliver the baby?

Did you also have growth sonos every week?

TIA!

I had to test my blood when I woke up and after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I also had to take insulin shots before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and at bedtime. I was diagnosed at 27 weeks and I followed the diet, tested my blood, and took insulin right up until I delivered. As soon as the baby was born my sugars went back to normal and I'm like my old self again. You would never even know I had GD. It's not so bad once you get use to, it's becomes very routine and it's only temporary. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions. Chat Icon

Starting around week 28 they had me in the OB office 2X/week, EVERY week until I delivered. I had growth sonos every other week and fetal monitoring twice a week. I also met with the endocrinologist every other week as well.

Last pregnancy i had GD, i had to do bloodtests on myself 4 x a day. Once in the morning and then 1 hour after i started each meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner). I did every day from the day i got the monitor until dd was born. I dont remember the growth sonos how often at first it there was some time inbtwn, but as the due date got closer i believe it was about every 7-10 days or so.

I have just been diagnosed as well. I see the ob every week. I am at 35 wks. I have a sono every week and a non-stress test also. So I am constantly at the doctors. I test my blood 4 times a day too. I take Glyburide every night before I go to sleep to lower my fasting sugars in the morning. So far its been helping. Its a pain, but the end result makes it all worth while!!!!Chat Icon

Thanks ladies, I'm wondering if it's possible to stop doing the blood test once your results indicate that you're relatively normal.

The reason I'm asking is what if you're misdiagnosed with GD?

It would be literally such a pain to have to go through the prick test for the next 8 weeks! :(

nope, you continue until delivery. reason being is that GD tends to get worse over time. i had GD with DD#1 and now have it again with DD#2. i got tested earlier with DD#2 and was able to control it with diet and exercise for a longer period of time, but wound up having to take insulin for my morning fasting number.

it's a pain, but it will force you to eat better and make sure the sugars are under control for the baby.
