Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I know it has been posted before of how much you spent on maternity clothes, but that is all relative for the pieces you choose.
I was wondering what elements are in your core maternity wardrobe?
I went shopping yesterday and now I am a little trigger happy. I just don't want to spend too much on a temporary wardrobe, albeit one that I am going to wear non-stop for probably the next 4 months or so. But I found a brand of cords that I LOVE-- and I want to get a few more colors and maybe another pair of jeans in the same style.
I am just so excited that I finally found clothes where I felt my body looked good-- and that are cute to boot!

Right now I have a pair of khakis, 2 black pants, an olive pair of pants, a gray pair of pants, 2 pairs of jean and 1 pair of tan cords. That's all as far as bottom goes. I have a few work tops and casual tops. XOXOXO BOTB

that's a ton of bottoms!
I now have two pairs of cords (and will probably get at least one more pair), and a pair of mavi maternity jeans-- which I am contemplating selling since I can't return to Mimi . I never wore them, but I think I would like the other brand better.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I buy for work, so that dictates what I can & cannot buy. Although my office is supposed to be business casual, the HR rep here is very old-school and does send people home if she has even a little wiggle room in the translation.
Here are the core must-haves for work: Khakis black pants grey pants button down shirts (at least one white, one patterned and one colour) a dark coloured and a light coloured cardigan or blazer one dress suit dress flats

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I have spent a fortune on maternity clothes. I needed both summer and fall/winter maternity, so it cost me little more, but I have...
5 pairs of jeans (I wear them everyday, starting to outgrow one pair... )
4 tanks
4 camis
3 t-shirts
several "shirt" shirts
3 zip up cardigans
2 button cardigans
3 light pullover sweaters
1 heavy cable knit sweater
I like to layer the tanks/ts/camis with the cardigans. They also took me from summer to fall.
I don't know if I will buy a winter coat, but I plan on getting pregnant again in the next couple of years, so I figure if I do buy one, it may get use again.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I have a pair of black, gray and brown pants.
I also mostly wear a lot of black yoga-type pants with cardigans and flowy tops/sweaters that aren't maternity.
I also went to Steve & Barry's and got a bunch of long-sleeve t-shirt type tops in a larger size than I normally wear and they fit well.
It's my birthday/anniversary weekend so DH is planning to take me shopping tonight for some more clothes and maybe a fall jacket. Although, I am thinking of just going somewhere like NY&CO and just getting something in a bigger size, not necessarily "maternity".

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
ok-- so, 4 or 5 pairs of maternity bottoms is not overkill?
I have never purchased so much clothing in one shot-- I am getting sticker shock!!

I have never purchased so much clothing in one shot-- I am getting sticker shock!! No. Best advice is like any other wardrobe, keep the bottoms simple and non-descript so you can mix & match with a wider variety of tops.
I find that I buy more shirts than bottoms to keep the outfits looking "new" and not repetitive.

yeah-- that's what I am getting/have, basic color cords (which I wear all the time normally) and jeans. The cords can be dressed up or down (for work function), one pair is trouser style and well, jeans are jeans.
I got one adorable dress-- again to be dressed up or down-- but, it's not fancy.
4 long-sleeve T's
I have a couple more substantial tops, then a cute little vest thingy-- and some other odds and end from Old Navy.
I think with all that-- I am good. I just didn't want to get TOO much. I like to spend money.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
oooh are they the Mimi cords? they are sooo comfy. I bought a pair and like you I wanted more. Haha.
Your core wardrobe all depends. I needed a casual and work wardrobe.
I am just trying to have enough work pants to carry me through a week and a few extra shirts to mix it up a little. Problem is I like all the casual stuff, so I have alot of that (friends lent me alot too).
I probably only need 2 or 3 pairs of jeans and the cords of coarse. Then some sweaters and tees.
Everyone keeps telling me not to buy too much at once because even though they say you will fit into something until the end, apparently that's not always true.

They fit me really well.. Juliet Dream 5 pocket cords.
I got them at this store in NJ, that I posted about yesterday here, she also has an online store.
I also got a pair of trouser style ones that also fit well-- Elly B by Olian.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
Great! I saw the cords at Motherhood but I'm not crazy about the quality of their stuff. I bought a pair of pants and after one wash it looks like I've washed them 10 times!!

I tried on the ones from Mimi and Motherhood... The Mimi ones were just ok-- and were very short. They didn't look that great on the butt either.
The Motherhood ones were HORRENDOUS. They look exactly like the Mimi ones with a very poor fit.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
The thing that I got the most out of when I had DD (and I see myself using a ton now) is the velour suits from Old Navy. I wore them to death - and they were super comfy after having a section - there is no way that I was putting jeans or cords on right after that!
Old Navy is having a pretty good sale right now for Columbus Day - link
I got 2 of the turtlenecks, 2 of the long sleeve T's and one of the zip front hoodies and pants sets.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
my ever evolving wardrobe has been the most challenging part thus far! (i kid)
i keep on growing and growing and i feel like sometimes i can't keep up! the best items that i have are my secret belly fit pants (jeans and slacks for work) as well as some long length camis. my biggest dilemma is i've never worn anything loosely before, everything i like needs to be form fitting, so i find it hard to pick huge tops assuming that i'll outgrow them. <sigh> you live and you learn. there's no real way to tell how big you'll eventually be!

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
i was able to get by from 12 weeks on with:
2 pairs of black work pants 1 pair grey work pants 1 pair of black work capris, and one in grey 2 pairs of jeans 1 pair of green cargo pants 1 pair of denim capris 1 pair of khaki capris
i also only had a few maternity tops, because i am large-chested, i fit better into tops from regular stores that were just a size larger than normal.
ETA: i think that this worked for me because nearly all of my pants had the secret fit belly, which grows with you as you get larger, and was also the most comfortable for me

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
Im trying to do the bare minimum:
2 Jeans 1 Black pant 1 brown tweed pant 1 kacki
I got some long layering tanks at target (not sure how long they will last)
4 wrap style cotton shirts from Old Navy
2 or 3 other shirts
1 dress (can be dressed up or dressed down)
so far at 23 weeks i've still been able to wear all of my normal shirts (except button downs)

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I have about 7 pairs of pants that are for work...i like to interchange them and not where the same 5 pairs of pants every week. I think that 7 is a pretty good number. And then i have 3 pairs of jeans and about 6 different types of sweat or comfy pants. I have 4 different cardigan type sweaters that i will wear tanks under and some other long sleeve shirts. Enough, again, so i am not wearing the same shirts every week. Depending on your attitude about cloths and what people see you in will determine how much you buy.

Re: Core Maternity Wardrobe?
I swore I would manage on the clothes from my last pregnancy but even in two years styles change.
I bought some non-maternity tops at Forever21 that are perfect maternity or after. I also bought two new pairs of jeans and have three more from the last pregnancy that are still in good shape. I bought leggings that are not maternity also. I have one pair of black dress pants, a pair of black cotton pants and brown cotton pants, two pairs of khaki capris, a white jean capri, two dresses, and just bought a really nice top and sweater from Target. So I spent about $100 more for this pregnancy to have some new stuff. Plus, I don't have to dress for work- jeans are fine- so I can get clothes that are not dressy.

They're all reasonably priced, but I have a lot more than that. I needed business casual pants for work and I wanted jeans and more casual pants for the weekend. I also needed a few suits for work. I started wearing maternity clothes pretty early on so I've gotten a lot of use out of the clothes I've bought.
