Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
Is there already a post on this? I'm desperately searching the internet for this information. It was on Today show this morning, but they just said to check the website for information about the 4 in 1 and 3 in 1 cosleeper - which I believe I have and am going to give to SIL to use for her baby.
I can't find it- and have to work - can someone else look into it?
TIA!

Re: Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
i heard about it on the radio, it's the simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-one bassinets that are being blamed for the deaths of two children, but i do not know if they have been recalled yet.

Re: Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
Here is the information on it from the CPSC website:
CPSC recall
If you read it, its pretty upsetting that the company that bought Simplicity refuses to recall the product because they say they are not responsible for previously manufactured products...I guess its better to let children be in danger?

Re: Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
here is the news article:
Government Warns Simplicity Bassinets Are Deadly
(AP) A government safety group is warning parents not to use a Pennsylvania company's baby bassinets after two babies were trapped and strangled in the product.
The "close-sleeper/bedside sleeper" bassinets, made by Simplicity Inc. of Reading, Pa., can allow infants to slip through the product and suffocate, said the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Simplicity Inc.'s 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets contain metal bars spaced farther apart than federal standards allow.
CPSC said a 5-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan., was strangled on Aug. 21 when she became entrapped between the bassinet's metal bars. Last September, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo., became entrapped in the product's metal bars and died.
SFCA Inc., the company which purchased all of Simplicity Inc.'s assets in April, "has refused to cooperate with the government and recall the products," CPSC said in a release Wednesday. "SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity Inc."
Simplicity recalled about 1 million cribs Sept. 21, 2007, after reports of three deaths as well as reports that seven infants had become entrapped in its cribs.

it's not being recalled by the company itself - seems like they are refusing to cooperate

Re: Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
Wow we had this for DD. I never used it as a co sleeper though b/c when the side was open I was afraid she would slip thru so I never took down the sides. I planned to use it for #2 when the time came - but not anymore. That is horrible that the company won't acknowledge there is a problem!!!! That is just sick. My parents bought ours from BBB (but it is the exact one pictured in the CPSC link above.)

Ditto. We have the exact one from the picture. It was from BBB. We also had an older one that was exactly the same except for the material. Someone gave us that one and we used it on our lower level. These were the only bassinets I found that were high enough that my dog could not reach them.

See this is going to be my future problem when #2 comes around - b.c we have two cats and it was high enough the cats weren't interested in it. Also DD was 9lbs 4 ozs and so it was one of the few with a higher weight limit.

Hopefully, there will be something else on the market. I remember not really wanting to buy a Simplicity bassinet anyway because they already had so many crib recalls. There were not a lot of choices but maybe there will be in the future.

Re: Simplicity Cosleeper - Recall? Please help me find info
My heart breaks for the families in the stories, but don't you all think that 4 months and 6 months are a little old to be in the bassinet still? i always heard that bassinet is good until 3 months- we moved DD out at 2.5 months because she was moving around so much - and now at 5 months she is all over her crib - i definitely would not have felt safe with her in the bassinet still...

I dunno. My DS was tiny so he fit in the bassinet for a long time. He was out of the bassinet for overnights at about 8-10 weeks but I was tired and anemic and I liked to put him there for naps so that I could nap in my bed nearby. I can't remember when we stopped doing that. I think that we had the velcro adhered properly and I'm glad nothing bad happened.

1. Infants Strangled to Death in Simplicity Bassinets: CPSC Urges Consumers To Stop Using Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible “Close-Sleeper” Models
NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207

Infants Strangled to Death in Simplicity Bassinets: CPSC Urges Consumers To Stop Using Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible “Close-Sleeper” Models
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging parents and caregivers to stop using convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa. CPSC has learned that on August 21, 2008, a 5-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan. was strangled to death when she became entrapped between the bassinet’s metal bars. This is the second strangulation death CPSC has learned of in the co-sleeper bassinets. On September 29, 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo. became entrapped in the metal bars of the bassinet and died.
CPSC is issuing this safety alert because SFCA Inc., the company which purchased all of Simplicity Inc.’s assets at public auction in April 2008, has refused to cooperate with the government and recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity Inc. The Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets contain metal bars spaced farther apart than 2 3/8 inches, which is the maximum distance allowed under the federal crib safety standard. The metal bars are covered by an adjustable fabric flap which is attached by velcro. The fabric is folded down when the bassinet is converted into a bed-side co-sleeping position. If the velcro is not properly re-secured when the flap is adjusted, an infant can slip through the opening and become entrapped in the metal bars and suffocate. This warning does not cover bassinets produced in recent months that have fabric permanently attached over the lower bar.
Due to the serious hazard these bassinets pose to babies, CPSC urges all consumers to share this safety warning with day care centers, consignment stores, family and friends to ensure that no child is placed to sleep in a Simplicity convertible bassinet covered by this warning. The Commission voted, using its new authorities in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, to release this warning upon making a finding that the health and safety of the public require immediate notice.

This is the second strangulation death CPSC has learned of in the co-sleeper bassinets. On September 29, 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo. became entrapped in the metal bars of the bassinet and died.
