Re: I Need to talk. - loooong
I'm sorry I know firsthand how frustrating it is. I did 3 natural IUI cycles and then we moved on to our first clomid cycle. I was SOOO excited, and I remember going to my RE on a Saturday morning, expecting to have my IUI that day because I got my surge on the OPK.
But the bloodwork came back and showed everything was completely out of whack - apparently it's rare, but I was a poor responder to Clomid. We called the cycle a bust, and moved on.
I had the option of trying again with Clomid, on a higher dose, but I was getting sick of the turmoil, and opted to get more bang for my buck by moving to injectables. I'm happy to report that I responded beautifully to the injectables, though no pregnancy.
So, I'm just trying to say, even if this cycle doesn't work, even if the Clomid doesn't work, it's not the end all and be all. It seems like an eternity, but you will move past this and find a protocol that works better

First
Secondly, tell your RE that you want to be aggressive and if this cycle doesn't pan out you want to go forward with an IUI...
Be firm!

Re: I Need to talk. - loooong
I had one cycle of clomid that I didn't respond well to and they actually put me on more clomid - during the same cycle. So it was 100 mg CD 3 - 7 and then 150 CD 9-13. Maybe they could do that?

My last clomid cycle my RE did this as well. I actually had a false postive OPK on CD12 which was way earlyl for me and my bloodwork levels we showing what they were showing on CD3! They ended up putting me on 150mgs CD 9-13 and I produced 3 follicles by CD21.

I agree! I'm in a similar situation as you in that I am early in my fertility treatments and recently finished my first round of Clomid with trigger. While I responded well to Clomid, I am 99% sure that I am not PG this month.
I already have decided that the next cycle (which will actually be Oct. because I am having polyps removed next cycle), I am doing Clomid with the IUI. If I am going to put myself through the side effects of taking Clomid, I might as well increase my chances by doing an IUI too.

Re: I Need to talk. - loooong
while i don't have an answer to your questions, i wanted to respond to your heart-wrenching post and tell you that we are all here for you.
DH's don't seem to get half as upset as we do at any time...or if they do, they don't show it. Could it be that your DH was trying to say that just to 'get out of the moment', so that he could go have a few minutes to process?
I sometimes feel that if Dave were half as excited/hopeful about the whole baby thing, then maybe he should get as upset as I do when it doesn't work, but he just doesn't 'work' that way. He deals with it in his own way...which is painful, but is why I cherish these boards so much..
Next month, we begin our 'fertility' journey at the doctor and i'm sure i'll be here, posting about the same things you are....vent away....

I am already on CD 14. I don't think that's possible for this cycle.

I hope you don't have to go to IUI
I am thinking that I want to do this as well. I wish Dr. K wasn't on vacation so I could talk to him about it.

Oops, I mis-spoke, I was put on a 2nd dose of Clomid on CD15-CD19 and it was CD23 that I had my trigger and IUI.

Re: I Need to talk. - loooong
It took a while for me to get to the right dose of clomid. I am assuming you are taking 50?
My first cycle on 50, I had no follies mature. They gave me a second round with no provera inbetween, and still nothing. I waited over 20 days to see if something would happen - finally I had one mature folle we did timed intercourse and BFN.. My second cycle, I went up to 100mg. I had one mature follie, and it happened pretty quickly, but BFN. My third cycle we did 100mg again, I also had an HSG that cycle. Over 20 days we waited, and nothing. The fourth cycle, we decided to to IUI if I got good follies. This time they upped my dose to 150mg, and I got 4 mature follies, I had the IUI about 5 days after my last pill. Unfortunately I had a m/c with that pregnancy. My next cycle, we did the same protocol as the previous cycle since it worked so well - 150mg clomid/trigger/IUI. This time I had 3 mature follies in about the same time frame as the previous cycle, and I got another BFP. Now I am almost 20 weeks pregnant with twins.
I spent so many times, just like you did - crying in my car after I went in for a sonogram and no follies had grown. I did just what you did - called DH in tears asking what was wrong with me. I know exactly the place you are in right now.
Your RE probably won't jump right to 150mg, they will want to try 100 first. Clomid doesn't work on the "more is better" mantra, its what your body responds to. SOme people get great response at 50, some at 100, some at 150, some not at all. About IUI - I don't know how to say this without being blunt - but if you don't get any follie response, IUI won't help you. My original plan was to do 3 cycles timed intercourse and then move to IUI. After 2 failed cycles with timed intercourse and a number of clomid cycles with no response, when we went to 150 I decided I wanted to to IUI, which did work for us. So I think asking for IUI can't hurt at all, but its only good if you get mature follies.

Thanks for sharing your story. Maybe I will call later and see if they can put me on a second dose of clomid. If not, then I dunno. I kind of had a feeling about the IUI thing. Can't they do injectables though as a possibility? I'm just so lost in all of this.

Re: I Need to talk. **UPDATE**
Honestly, I would say that 50 mg. isn't enough for you. I needed to be on 100mg and I still didn't ovulate until CD20/21. i know some people don't ovulate until they are on 150mg. Each person responds differently and as long as your RE is monitoring the growth, you will know for sure what is going on.

Yes, I am on 100 mg of clomid. I did 50mg for 3 months. i actually got pg on the 3rd round and miscarried in June at 10 weeks. We have male factor and I have blood clotting disorders. This time, the dr let me do 100mg to give me a better shot. I am trying to avoid IVF, for a couple of months anyway. Obviously I will do it if this doesnt work for us.
