our ped said to do it this way too in a sippy cup. She had been drink water since about two months old because of her constipation issues so she is used to it.

Re: Introducing Water
I did around 6 months when it started to get really hot. I give it to ds in a sippy cup sometimes or in a small bottle. But I dont hold it for him, so even if I give him 4 oz he may drink 1. I also bring a water bottle to stores with us so if he gets fussy he enjoys trying to feed himself the bottle!
ETA: make sure you put him in a dry diaper, water goes right through them, DS's diaper must weigh like 2lbs after he has some water!

Re: Introducing Water
DS hates water and won't drink much of it at all. I started giving it to him now and then around 6 months, but he usually won't drink it.
I'm thinking of trying a very small amount of juice in it since he won't drink it.

Re: Introducing Water
My son was 6mos and I introduced water in a sippy cup. The one with a straw because the others are bad for their palette developement.

Re: Introducing Water
Between 4-5 months, gave it to her in sippy cup (with a few oz but never drank it all) took few weeks to understand and like it. Now loves water!

Re: Introducing Water
My Ped told me to give my 3 month old 4 oz. a day because of her constipation.
BTW. I use a slow nipple so she does not choke.

Re: Introducing Water
I just asked my dr when to introduce water at DD's 8 month appt. She said it is still too early..she gets all her hydration from BM and baby food. She said it is not recommended to give any baby anything that is not caloric until 10 months or so...if they are thirsty, give them BM or formula.

Re: Introducing Water
I just actually did it on my own over the past month.... Started in Cabo with a Poland spring bottle, and she loved it!
I fill up a sippy cup and let her take what she wants from it throughout the day!
