question about contractions
i am hoping you ladies can help me.
i have been having BH contractions for weeks now. on wednesday i think i overexerted myself and had cramping in my lower abdomen. i rested, drank a lot of water and a couple of hours later the cramps went away. they haven't been back since.
last night i was very sick (vomiting and you-know-what, sorry TMI) and then a couple of times this morning i had what i *think* could have been a couple of mild contractions. the best way i can describe the feeling is that i had cramping/pain in my lower back, like the pain i would always get before AF, and then that cramping feeling moved to my lower abdomen, and my belly got somewhat hard - not rock hard, but not the way it normally is.
so the dumb question of the day is - was that a contraction? and if so, should i be worried? (my due date is 4 weeks from tomorrow and i have a dr's appointment on tuesday).
it only happened a few times, i am in bed now resting, and truthfully i would rather wait until tuesday to talk to my doctor. i am pretty laid back about this kind of stuff normally, so i am wondering if i should be more proactive about this since it happened twice in one week.
TIA

Re: question about contractions
It is hard to say b/c contractions are different for everyone. For me - my contractions were all in my lower back right in the center. That is the ONLY place I ever had contractions - I totally did not expect this though and, as a result didn't even REALIZE they were contractions until they were consistenly coming every 5 min or so But, you will know for sure once the pain gets to the point that it is horrific!

Re: question about contractions
It sounds to me like a contraction. Try timing them today and see if there is a regular pattern. Try to rest and drink lots of water.
We used this to time mine.

Re: question about contractions
it sounds like it may have been contractions or BH, but since it stopped you're not in labor. I would mention it to your doctor on Tuesday. You may be beginning to dilate, which would explain the contractions.

Re: question about contractions
It does sound like contractions, but it can go off and on like that for a while. I would not worry about being 4 weeks from your due date. I had my DS 4 weeks early and he has never had any health issue due to that.
When it starts up again I would time them.

Re: question about contractions
I didn't think I was having contractions b/c it was low (I always thought they were supposed to be high on the belly). I had what I felt like was AF cramps or constipated feeling. It wasn't until I was trying to go to the bathroom (TMI) and realized if I pushed any harder my baby would come out. My water broke about 10 minutes after that and he was born within a half hour. I never had BH contractions so I can't compare, but if you drink some water and lay down and they continue, I'd say you're having true contractions. Good luck!

Re: question about contractions
Like PP said, contractions are different for everyone. That being said, I never had BH. The Sunday before Ryan was born I started having pains in my lower belly. I thought they could be contractions but was in denial I suppose. After each one I felt like the only thing that would provide relief would be a poop. I'd try to go and nothing would come out. So, I started timing them. They averaged about 5 minutes apart and lasted 1 minute.
Since they weren't too strong I made myself go to sleep. Woke up Monday morning and they were gone initially. Came back while I was having an NST (non stress test) done. Next thing I knew my water broke.
I say try timing them. If they aren't any sort of pattern nothing to worry about just mention to the doc at your appt. If there is a pattern, take it easy, and give the doc a call.
Keep us posted!!!!!!

Re: question about contractions
thanks everyone. i haven't felt anything except BH for a few hours, so i am guessing it's nothing to worry about... but from what you all have described i definitely think they were mild contractions.
i'll tell my dr about it on tuesday. hopefully the internal will show some progress!!
