newborn and baths
How often do/did you give your newborn a bath?
my DS is 5 weeks old and we bath him every other night. Just wondering if we should be doing it every night (although i'm afraid he'll end up with cradle cap if we do).

Re: newborn and baths
every day, every other or every 3rd depending on the weather/time of year. At that age they don't get very dirty, but if was a sweaty summer day and i thought it would make him feel better I would gve him one. On the other hand if it was really cold out I might skip it. It was rare as an infant if he got one a few days in a row, but I always wiped him down with a wet cloth before bed.

We did every 3 days when DS was a newborn--it was winter and his skin was very dry. Anymore would have been too much.
You can wash their hair more often though if you are worried about cradle cap and skip the bath.

Re: newborn and baths
DD is 6 weeks and we typically bath her every other day. Every day I give her a quick sponge bath for her face and neck. If she spits up or has a big diaper blowout then I give her a bath that day too.

I used to do every other or every 3rd. Bathing too often dries their skin out.

Re: newborn and baths
DH and I did it every 3-4 days...I was a nervous wreck, he was afraid he was going to break her so my mom did all the bathing for the first couple of weeks

Us too! If you see cradle cap, we used baby oil before baths when we noticed it and it did a great job at getting rid of it.
