Buyer/Seller Etiquette

My DH and I have just started the process of looking for a house. We have gone to see some houses and are curious as to why the sellers are selling, i.e. are they buying another house, they have outgrown their house and need a bigger house, etc. My question - Is it "taboo" to ask the seller why they are selling? Re: Buyer/Seller Etiquette

Learn from my mistakes. Ask ask ask. Ask any questions you want. I wish I had asked about people smoking in the house and doggie bathroom habits. You are making a major investment ask any and all questions you want.

Re: Buyer/Seller Etiquette

Defintiely ask! sometimes that gives you in the information you need to base your offer on. for example, if they got a new job and have to relocate ASAP, then they may be willing to think about a low offer or if they are relocating out of state, they will get a lot more for the moeny down there and can take a lower offer. on the other hand, if they are relocating within NY or can wait, they want higher offers.

Re: Buyer/Seller Etiquette

Ask all the questions you want. You might not get the answers you want or the right answers, but sometimes you do. But ask away. It's your money that you will be spending. GL!

I am selling and i WELCOME that question. Here's why... there are two other houses for sale right on my block, one next door and one three houses down. It looks suspicious. next door... they are getting a divorce, down the block they already got the divorce and the lady can't pay the bills. me? i need to be closer to my job as does my DH.

Please! Ask the questions!

Re: Buyer/Seller Etiquette

Your question is not at all taboo. Some real estate agents will reveal, some will not, and some will lie. The 1st offer we put in the real estate agent claimed the couple had already relocated to Texas and needed to sell right away. Listing agent told us that "the couple" would not be countering our offer, but rather wanted best and final. It turns out that there was never a couple in Texas. The house needed to be sold right away since it was owned by the real estate company who had it in the possession for over 6 plus months. This information was discovered by our wonderful real estate agent.

You should be able to ask questions and get answers from the seller. You should be able to ask questions and get answers from the buyer. This way your both on the same Page.
