When did you stop using the monitor?

DS is consistantly sleeping through the night now. (Hooray for CIO!! Chat Icon)

The pediatrician mentioned that I shouldn't need the monitor anymore. DS is almost 11 months.

I was appalled at the thought of getting rid of it, but now I'm wondering if I'm just a monitor junkie.

When did you stop using yours?

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

We weren't really using ours, unless we were downstairs (and even not all the time then) by the time DS was about a year or so. But then at 15 months he had a febrile seizure and we went out and bought a video monitor. We're still using it.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

I stopped when she was about 10 months old. I can hear her and she wakes me up when she cries. I found that all her little noises were waking me and I wasn't able to sleep with the monitor on.

He's only 4 months, so we are still using it and probably will for quite some time. We were joking the other day that we will keep using it when he's a teen, so he can't sneak out of the house.

DS will be 5 next month. When we stop using the monitor, I'll let you know... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

He's on 2nd floor, we're on 1st floor, so it's nice to have in case he has a nightmare, or gets sick at night. It's also nice to hear if he's up and wandering around, or still sound asleep.

I still use it at 18 months, but I just turn it on when I go to bed.

DH says we don't need it anymore, but I feel better with it on. We have a split and he is on the level below us, so I am scared I would be in a deep sleep and not hear him.

DD is 17 months and I don't plan on getting rid of it. She's at the other side of the house and I usually hear her without it, but I don't want to not use it just in case I am in a deep sleep.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

i don't see me getting rid of it anytime soon. He's been waking up a lot lately because of the ongoing ear-infection issues so I like to be able to hear him very clearly. Especially since we keep his door shut.

He's also been waking up a lot because he turns himself sideways in the crib and gets mad that he can't get himself back and his head is right up against the rail.

Also now that the spring/summer is coming DH and I are outside a lot at night hanging out so its good that we have it so that we can hear him.

And then let's not mention the fact that I'm still afraid of SIDS so I can't see letting the Angelcare go....

Monitor junkie here too...

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

19 mths and still using mine. DD is actually right next door to us so I usually turn the volume down and leave the video part on. Probably not necessary but it makes me feel better.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

DS is 4 months and I don't really use it much anymore. We are in an apt., so I can hear him really well from our room when we are in bed. I think I am really sensitive to his noises, though. When I had the monitor on and heard him through the night, I never got a decent night's rest.

Once we move to a house, I will probably use it again if we are on a different floor from him.

We stopped using DD#1's when she was 20 mos. and DD#2 came along, although we still use it occasionally if she's upstairs and we're downstairs.

I am a monitor junkie too. We moved it from our bedside to the dresser (just one we used to have both on for surround sound Chat Icon ) and I started lowering the volume. But...I can't part with it yet. We keep his door closed at night and I am always afraid I won't hear him.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

Honestly, it was a waste and we never really used it. I can hear him cry anywhere in the house. The only time it came in handy was when we were sitting outside and he was down for a nap, but even then, it was at the limit of it's range and all it did was beep constantly.

Same with me.

We really need it for thier naps since they are crazy in there if left alone and awake for too long.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

My boys are 18 months and still use it, and will use it a lot more this summer.
My house is NOT huge so when they are nappinga nd wake up I can hear them upstairs.

I will only use it if we are outside and they are napping or sleeping which is why we will use it a lot this summer, after they go down at night and DH want to sit on the deck.
I wouldnt get rid of them, you still may need it.

Re: When did you stop using the monitor?

Dh and I never want to stop using the monitorChat Icon Dh wants to mount it over their bedroom door and at the front door til they move out and get married to see when they come and go.Chat Icon

But i dont' see me stopping using it any time soon, i have a video monitor and i like to see what they are up too. Before #2 with my toddler, i kept the volume down to almost off, but it helped to see if she was standing up-she has nightmares/nightterrors and we needed to see if her eyes are open or not-that depended if we went in or not.
