Please help me!!!
DH's father passed away. He lived alone and the police sealed the apartment. This b!tch of a cop was so rude to my DH and SIL yesterday telling them they need to go to court to get the apartment opened. She was extremely rude and all my DH and SIL did was cry. (I was there with them)
All they want is something to bury him in and some photos to put up at the wake. Has anybody dealt with the NYPD in this respect? My DH is heading to the court now in hopes of a miracle today as the wake is tomorrow.

Sorry to hear this. My DH is a cop in the city too and he has never heard of this either. The family should always be allowed in to retrieve things they need. Sorry I have no advice....it just makes no sense../.

The cops that were there before the ME got there said all they needed to do was go to the precinct and another cop would escort them. When they went to the precinct yesterday they were told it doesnt work that way.

Re: Please help me!!!
Do they suspect that it's a crime scene? That's the only reason I can think that they'd seal it off.
Otherwise, if he's in a rented apartment (without any listed family members), no one may enter the apartment w/out proving who they are.
There are vicious people out there that squat in apartments of the deceased...NYPD is protecting that.
Sorry for your loss, and I hope this is resolved quickly.
