Gift for Friend Who Just Told Me She Was Preggers
I am very close with my husband's BF's wife. She just told me they are preggers. She just found out. But I want to give her a cute gift basket , a congrats present.
I want to get her the Belly Laughs book by Jenny McCarthy, but what else can I get her. I don't really want to get her baby stuff, I want to get her stuff for her that will help with the pregnancy.
If you can't tell I have no children, so I have no idea! Help!

i get everyone that book when they tell me they are preggo and after they have the baby I give them her 2nd book Baby Laughs

Tums were a lifesaver for me in early pregnancy.
Maybe some Cocoa Butter or Vitamin E for her belly as it grows.
Tylenol - since pretty much every other kind of pain reliever is taboo for the next 30 weeks or so.
A gift certificate for a pedicure and a bottle of sparkling apple cider to toast with.
Maybe a cool tee shirt from Cafe Press relevant to being an expectant mom.

Her favorite junk foods, a GC for a pregnancy massage, plus the books you mentioned.
Vermont teddy bears has a preggo bear that is so cute!

a lot of the girls on the pregnancy board LOVE the book Baby Bargains- it is a lifesaver! I also enjoyed belly laughs... My mom got me what to expect when you are expecting and it is currently being used as a paper weight/door stop- it was boring and i personally think there are much better books out there... a baby name book might be a good addition, also the palmers coco butter for stretch marks, and the snoogle pillow are other gifts that i enjoyed- i also got my DH the book "my boys can swim" it was pretty funny as well... I also agree with the Tums, and a bottle of extra strength tylenol since that is all that we can take for headaches/pain- also, maybe a gift certificate to old navy or target for some maternity clothes one it comes time...

What to Expect can be a bit overwhelming. Although it is a good resource, it can freak you out if you are worrisome. The Girlfriend's Guide to PG is a good one, as is Your Pregnancy Week By Week.
A GC to a pregnancy massage might also be nice

ok - when I am preggo, I want that bear!! I have never seen that.
When I found out my SIL was preggo, I sent her a box of things (she lives out of state - therefore the box of stuff instead of basket)
But I got her:
A week by week pregnancy book - I can find out the author if you want - I can't remember it right now.
I also bought her the Baby Laughs book
I also got her a Pregnancy journal (cause never knew they had them and I would have loved to have it when I was preggo)
I got her a New Baby book - for when the baby comes (like a scrapbook type - that you can put the dates in and stuff)
Also got her a poem 'from the baby' and put it in a frame so that they can put it in the baby's room.
And I also found - I love Mommy bib and a I love Daddy bib

I def. recommend the Baby Bargains book, too.
If you can, buy these books on ebay, but make sure the baby bargains is the most recent edition.
Jenny's book is like acute magazine article- NOT worth $12.

My friend gave me a Barefoot dreams robe that was the comfiest thing ever when I was preg.
I gave another friend a pregnancy calendar with stickers for important days and some of those preggie pops things from Motherhood maternity.

The Baby Bargains book is good, the McCarthy book was funny, but a very short book, and I agree, not worth the $$$.
Maybe get her a Gap card. I would have loved that--they have decent maternity clothes, and if she doesn't like their stuff she can get larger bras, underwear or baby clothes.
