Music during delivery
Is anyone doing this?
If so, what are your music selections?

I was thinking "I'm bringing Sexy Back"
J/K
I like the idea of music to distract me, but not sure what I want to put together.
The Drs are going to think I am psycho if I just do a meadly from my ipod.

Re: Music during delivery
Definitely! I made a Labor Mix for my IPOD. It ranges from sweet songs to motivational. Here's a sampling:
Sweet: Put your records on (Corinne Bailey Rae) To Zion (Lauryn Hill) Can't take my eyes off of you (Lauryn Hill) Tiny Dancer (Elton John) She talks to angels (Black Crowes) The Reason (Hoobastank) Lullabye (Billy Joel) Least Complicated (Indigo Girls) Flake (Jack Johnson) Patience (G n' R) Return to Innocence (Enigma)
Motivational: Push it (Salt n' Pepper) Love Child (Diana Ross) Papa Don't Preach (Madonna) Try (Janis Joplin) 9 to 5 (Dolly Parton) Let's Get Loud (J-Lo - esp. since she could be giving birth down the hall from me) Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
Just so you know, my DH thinks I'm crazy and has already told me that he's embarrassed by half the songs I have on my mix. This is really just the tip of the iceberg!

Re: Music during delivery
ok, then I am definitely will include a bunch of my favorite running songs (poison, bon jovi, van halen) , they always get me pumped.
And then I can have on hand my mushier/calmer songs too, if I have a mood swing

Re: Music during delivery
I'm going down the "aromatherapy"/"relaxing" road.
I have a couple of CD's that is just light soothing music even some classical music. I'm aiming for "soothing" since I am planning on going all natural.

Re: Music during delivery
I made all this music up & then was in labor over 30 hours & never once thought to listen to it....I was too busy talking to DH, visiting w/ parents, having dr's/nurses in/out & it just never crossed my mind. I guess it can't hurt to have though...

Re: Music during delivery
when would this be played? Like during the actual pushing? Do hospitals really have stereos in the delivery room for this purpose?

I want it if I have a long labor and during the pushing parts. I also would like it for afterwards when I am in my room.

Oooh, I have to add that one to my labor mix! I plan on have my Ipod and speakers set up in the room. I was gonna having the music playing during the labor part that takes hours. For the actual delivery part, I have a feeling I won't care by then what's going on.

Oh, OK- this makes sense. So how many hours of sound do you recommend? I will make a labor playlist for sure. Doctors are really OK with this? Or will they not even be in there the whole time? If it's for our enjoyment, I am all for Poison, Def Leppard, Europe, and all those other crappy bands my husband loves, becaus ethey all make me laugh.

Re: Music during delivery
I had the TV on while I was sleeping in the labor room for some noise. Let me prepare you-all that you will see is food commercials, and the hospital will not let you eat a friggin thing. Very frustrating when you are hungry.
As I get back on track...from the time my water broke, then started pushing, and during labor, I was literally in a daze, and all I remember is doctors and nurses telling me what to do. I do not remember music or a tv blaring. I just remember concentrating. At the time, there was no time for music. lol

According to my hospital tour - it's all cool. The dr. isn't required to be there until you hit 6-7 cm anyway. I don't think they care as long as (a) it's not blasting (i.e. not the time to test your bass) and (b) it's not country (well, if I were your dr.). Put it in your birth plan, then it's like written in stone!

Totally. Tell them it's what helps you get through the contractions. That and some death metal. Maybe some Skinny Puppy?
My DH told me he'd be embarrassed if his mom walks in during my showtunes bit. Especially "Dance Ten, Looks Three."

Ditto this! I am bringing my laptop with me so that I can play relaxing music.
I feel like if I have my headphones in from my ipod, I'll get aggravated....

Anything by Metallica- lots of cymbals crashing... loud guitars.
My unborn child goes crazy whenever he/she hears the "jersey boys " soundtrack- so I will def have that. And Baby S loves OAR- so that will be there too.
