Graco, Perego, Eddie Bauer, etc?
A friend told me that many of the Graco products get recalled frequently? She recommended other brands including Perego and Eddie Bauer and another for the car seat that started with a B. She said that the lighter infant car seats are no good and heavier one's stay in place better. I've only heard that the lighter one's are easier to get in and out of the car. I'm totally confused. I liked a lot of the Graco products including the travel system, but of course the baby's safety is paramount and superceded a pretty pattern. What are other's thoughts on this. I want to get good quality and safe items. If you have strong opinions and don't want to post your reply feel free to FM me b/c I'd like the honest truth on this since it's really important.

I used the Baby Bargains book to help me with brands/reviews. We ended up registering for the Graco Snugride Infant carseat and the Britax Roundabout for the convertible car seat. If you don't have the book, I (and alot of other pregos) highly recommend it. I also looked at consumer reports and read reviews on the babies r us website.

For a convertible car seat I absolutely love the Eddie Bauers. They didn't get the best ratings but 2 of my nephews had/have it and they've been great. I'm registering for one.

Most of the products I registered for are Graco. The only exception is my high chair which is Peg-prego and one of my carseats is the Britax Roundabout. I based what I registered for off of people's recommendations (one of which was a BF who has two children and worked for BRU). Most companies will have a recall at some point.

I registerd and received the Peg-Perego Venezia stroller and the Peg-Perego Primo Viaggio car seat to be used with it. They both rate well in the Baby Bargains book and I have heard great reviews from moms. I can't wait to use them.

UPDATE I have to say, I got the book today in the mail and I'm so glad I didn't register without seeing this first. I'm using it as my main guide. I felt it was a great guide, every preggo should have it. It gives me ammo too when my friends try to tell me that b/c this is my first child that I have no clue about what a "real mom" looks for in baby gear. Yes, this is basically what one friend said as she went off on products that the book gave great ratings to.

Ditto for us!!! This is exactly what we registered for also.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ is the link to search for recalls on specific car seats. To look for recalls on strollers and such check out consumer reports.
Baby Bargains stated a fact I found interesting - Graco has been manufacturing strollers for 33 years and in that 33 years they have never had a single recall (clearly I'm talking strollers only, not sure about car seats). But interesting fact none the less.
HTH!
