Did You Get A "Thank You" for Your Gifts?

Just wondering is saying 'thank you' optional nowadays.

I gave 35 gifts on Xmas and only received a few thank you from several people. Most of the recipients are kids...

Have kids forgotten how to say 'thank you' or am I missing something here? I just started noticing this the past few years....

We got thank you's...

But remember, in the excitment of getting a gift, and one that you really wanted, sometimes even the most polite kid will forget a thank you. It doesn't mean they aren't thankful.

We got lots of thank yous. The kids in my family can't play with the gifts until they go around to everyone - say thank you - and give hugs.

If your xmas is anything like my family's then it's pure chaos, everyone opening gifts at the same time and the thank you's probably get said, but are completely missed by most!

IMO, the parents are to blame for that one! My parents would NEVER let me get away with NOT saying thank you. They'd take away my toyChat Icon

Nope and it's always the same kids who don't.

It's kinda good to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this. And yes, it's the same kids who don't do this too.

I think the parents are partly at fault for not encouraging their kids.

Next year, some of these kids will not be getting gifts while others will get the generic stuff - clothes or books.

No offense, but that is awfully childish. I mean, by no means do you need to buy gifts if you don't want to. But to pick and choose who you give them to is a little rude. Especially if everyone celebrates togetherChat Icon

They are kids. Someone needs to teach them to say thank you....and it isn't like they said "F you, you succk" they just didn't say thank youChat Icon

Exactly. I personally don't give a gift with the stipulation that someone MUST say thank you. It's proper etiquette, but if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.

Re: Did You Get A "Thank You" for Your Gifts?

Hmmmnn....I think my one nephew did thank me. I did make sure my kids thanked everyone though. My DD doesnt see my one SIL too much and I said "Did you thank you to Aunt Michelle?" and she sort of looked around and did a thank you into the crowd without making eye contact which annoyed my SIL for some reason. I'm not sure if that's worse than no thank you but she's a little kid (3 1/2) so I hope not. I didn't even think about the thank yous till I read this thread and thought about it. They're all overwhelmed so I would just chalk it up to that rather than ungratefulness in most cases. We gave my 7 yr old niece a few very nice gifts but none that she could play with on the spot and she had a mini-meltdown over it. Hey kid, blame it on your Mom that's what she said you'd like Chat Icon That was kind of bratty IMO but again, they're all wound up so I'm not taking offense.
