Possibly Stupid Question

My dog has a name tag - but no address on it. He is also wearing a Rabies tag with a number on it. If he is picked up can they notify us? Will this number help identify him to shelters or clinics??

I know I may be grasping at straws here - but none of the shelters are open and waiting for tomorrow to call is killing me.

I would think they should be able to identify him through the rabies tag. There has to be some kind of a central system that keeps track of the rabies shots...

Your rabbies tag should have your Vet's info on it, a date, and a number...

if you dog is picked up, if they were smart enough, they would look at the tag, see a phone number and call. Your Vet would be able to identify the number and prestto...done

i could be wrong but scruffy tag has everything right there

The rabbies tag should have your vets infomation. If someone finds the dog they can call the vet and let them know they found him/her and the vet can track the rabbies # and hopefully give you a call.
This happened with my dog. The vet called me to tell me where my dog was because they didn't want to give out my address or phone number.

We've gotten in contact with a couple of dog's owners from their Rabies tags. I don't think the vet (at least not some of them) gives you the contact info, but they will contact the owners.

Vets will give owner information to shelters and some will give to rescue organizations as well. The vet should also contact the owner. It is important that new addresses and telephone numbers are updated, sometimes vets have old information.
