TMI regarding stopping the use of Tums...

I was taking Tums on a regular basis...alot of them. They weren't working for me so my doctor suggested Mylanta. I stopped taking Tums and started taking the Mylanta on monday. I heard a few people say that Tums causes constipation...do you think that by me not taking them anymore it could have the opposite effect on my bowel movements? Since I was taking so many...everyday for the last few months?

I took them Daily...it was a MUST! I had severe heartburn.
Honestly, i think constipation came with the pregnancy...not just from tums.

Take the Mylanta...see how you feel.
If it does the reverse, it may only be when you 1st take it and then go back to normal.

I do take the Mylanta and not the Tums. Since i've done that...lets say i'm not as constipated as I was.Chat Icon I hope it doesn't last to long.

I've been taking it once during the day and before bed. It says I can take up to 9 teaspoons per day...i've been taking 4. Do you think I shouldn't be?

I think Tums does add to the pregnancy related constipation. I notice that when my reflux isnt as bad for a few days (especially now that teh baby has dropped a bit) that I am not as backed up and I have not been using Tums as often.

I would think that not taking them could lead to the opposite issue until your body clears out.

I take 2-3 Tums every night before bed. I was also constipated but my doctor thought it was because of my prenatal vitamin. So she switched me last week and since then, things have been much much better!
