Smithtown, Commack, Northport or Huntington?

HI I am new to the website. My husband and I are looking to buy a house. We have found houses in a few different areas that we like. I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on these towns?

Re: Smithtown or Huntington?

I live in Huntington & love it. I think as with most towns there are good areas and not so good areas.

BTW, Welcome!

To be honest, I like the south shore better, but of your choices, I prefer Commack. We have friends who live there and the area is very nice...pricey though! Are there any other considerations, like commute to work or preference for school districts? There is just so much to think about when you're buying a house.

Good luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I grew up in Smithtown, so I can tell you that all these areas are great. Good school districts, nice neighborhoods, and cute towns. Out of the four, Smithtown, and Northport are my favorite.

I grew up in Commack, I wish I could afford Smithtown or Commack. We had thought about East Northport for a while. I think you can't go wrong with those choices, just watch the surrounding areas.

Commack consistently wins awards for being one of the best districts. You can live in Commack or parts of Dix Hills, East Northport and Smithtown and be part of the district.

Re: Smithtown, Commack, Northport or Huntington?

They are all very similar areas, IMHO. Huntington has a few different types of neighborhoods, though, as it covers a big area.

I agree. Parts are seedy near the tracks.

Re: Smithtown, Commack, Northport or Huntington?

I think the primary difference is whether the neighborhood is more suburban in feel, or village-y...

I grew up in dix hills (next town over from commack, and very suburban), but I prefer the village environment... being able to walk to a park, shops, library..... either northport or huntington (a home close to main st in the village) would be my personal preference.

all the neighborhoods you mentioned are really comfortable, though Chat Icon
