when is it okay to get a massage?

I'm 15 weeks today. I know you're not supposed to in your first trimester. Can I get one now or is it safer to wait a little?

I just called and her nurse told me no! And I asked, well, when is it ok? And she said not at all throughout the term and no chiropractor either!

Then again, she also told me she didn't want me having sex the first trimester!

I think she is WAY conservative but I don't want to outright disobey her. Hhhrmmph!!!

I think I may just do it anyway!

As an LMT, I will answer.

Not in your 1st trimester. Most place with ask for a dr's note that it's OK.

Also, as long as the person knows what they are doing.

Also make sure that it's a prenatal massage that they are doing!

WOW! Way conservative. Are you a high risk patient? If you are then I will agree with her on everyting. If not and you are a low risk, normal pregnant woman, there is no reason why you can't go to the chirpractor, have sex or even get a prenatal massage after your first trimester. My GF had to go to the chirpractor throughout her pregnancy otherwise she couldn't poopChat Icon Her daughter is gorgeous and healthy as is the mom. I had many prenatal massages throughout my first pregnancy and I am going to have a few this time around starting next week and my daughter is prefectly fine as I was/am.
It's so annoying how every dr.caregiver is not on the same page, however it's always interesting to hear why...

Re: when is it okay to get a massage?

I'm not high risk. I actually just called my cousin, who is high risk, and she said that she was told it was fine to get a massage and actually sent me a gift cert for one as a suprise. My SIL's all said the same thing and one just had a baby 2 months ago.

Sorry, doc, but I just ain't listening on this one. I haven't heard one other person tell me otherwise.

Re: when is it okay to get a massage?

okay, so I called my doctor's office back to get an explanation as to why I couldn't get a prenatal massage and the girl who answered this time said that it was totally fine, as long as you inform the massage therapist that you are PG and that it is a prenatal. When I told her that the first nurse who answered told me otherwise, she said "no, that's absolutely not true, you definitely can".

So bizarre! Anyway, I said I was unhappy with the inconsistent answers and asked that the doctor, herself call me back, but I'm not going to stress myself over it.
