BC Ring?
I just got back from the OBGYN for my 6 week checkup...
We talked about Birth Control and he recommended the NuvaRing -- which is a Birth Control Ring.
Basically it's about 1.5 inches and it's flexible plastic that contains hormones -- you bend it in half and *ahem* -- you know the rest.
He said it's just as effective as the BC pill but has lower levels of hormones -- the lowest you can get and so you have less side effects, and it's also slightly more effective in a way because you can't forget to take it -- you put it in on the 2nd or 3rd day of your period and leave it in for 3-4 weeks. It has enough hormones to last 32 days but he said usually change it at every period.
I'm just wondering if anyone is using this or has considered it and what you think of it?

Re: BC Ring?
I have friends on it that love it. I decided on Yasmin from some of the comments women on here stated and also because a good friend is a Berlex Drug Rep and she basically swore to me that I would love it! And I DO as does DH!!
After another pregnancy I will try a IUD but my poor Mother fears them and I have had too many friends who have had gotten pregnant and lost the baby while they were on it. So I would rather risk (even though studies show it isn't a risk as much as it used to be) after having #2.

Re: BC Ring?
OK here's a dumb question..... How do you get it out? Is there a string like on a tampon? Do you feel it hanging out?

Re: BC Ring?
Supposedly you just pull it out. You hook your finger on it to pull it out.
I was concerned about inserting it properly and he said you really can't do it wrong....that it doesn't make it less effective if it ismore or less up there -- but the more it's up there the less chance of you feeling it -- which you're not supposed to at all.
I'm just wondering how far up there you have to reach to pull it out, you know? And will my husband be able to feel it???

Re: BC Ring?
For those of you that have been on it, did you see a difference in your sex drive compared with the pill which pretty much erases your sex drive!

Good Question!
I was thinking of using this for after this pregnancy.. I got pregnant with my son on Yasmin, and Ortho made my moods wicked... I dont know anyone though that has ever used the ring tho.. (except the gals mentioned above)..

Its goes in and out so easy. It kind of just slides right up. You bend it together, skinny ovallike to put it in. My DH never said he could feel it.

i was on it and i loved it. The only problem i had was my cervix is differnt then on other people well i mean somone else could have the same as mine but it would come out alittle bit and i will feel it. Sorry for the tmi but when me and dh made love it would be ring about the rosie. Sorry for TMI. But it was great
It looks like the tip of a condom but alittle bigger and it is flexable

Okay, that's so funny. Very nice way to put it.
Well, I have a sample for my first month and also a prescription for the next 6 months. I'm following up with my doctor after 3 so we'll see how it goes. He showed it to me today and I felt it and he showed me how it bends and stuff -- I'm nervous about putting it in but he said you can't really do it wrong. The olny thing is that if you don't put it in far enough you could feel it but you can take it out and reinsert it without it being a problem -- as long as it's back inwithin 3 hours which I'd never go that long anyway.

The first time is the hardest. Kind of like sex. After that you'll be a pro.

Re: BC Ring?
I tried it as my first BC method post partum because I decided against the IUD and I was NOT happy.
First of all, your partner can feel it during sex (depending on what you are doing, I suppose ) though I see no reason why you can't take it out before a roll in the hay as long as you put it back in before 3 hours.
Second, I HATED the fact that you had to start it on the first day of your period. (Can we say messy??) I bled for 4 weeks STRAIGHT because of it. And then I just didn't know what to do with it anymore. So I stopped using it and not so suprisingly, I finally stopped bleeding.
I might give it another shot after I talk to my Dr about my symptoms. It sounded so ideal that I don't think I want to give up on it just yet.
