anyone else going to BF and not pump?

i plan on purely nursing and not using a bottle at all. anyone else dong this?

I'm going to nurse this baby. I always felt like bottles were such a hassle. I just whip out the boob and I'm done!

I am primarily going to be BF'ing. The only reason for me registering for bottles is because I know Brian, and he WILL DEFINITELY get jealous.... He's going to want to feed her sooner or later....

I EBF my DD - she is 4 months - I was pumping for an occasional bottle to make it easier when we went out for the day - but she stopped taking a bottle.

The only reason to consider pumping if you are SAHM is if you and DH want a night out - it is hard b.c DD eats every 2-3 hours and sometimes every hour - so leaving her with my mom can be a bit hard since my mom has no way to feed her. Otherwise there is no reason to give a bottle.

I did this with my first... I actually tried pumping a bunch of times but I never produced enough milk to make it worth it so I just nursed and she never had a bottle!

I plan on exclusively BF. I think the only need to pump would be if DH and I go out for a night or if I have to run an errand without the baby.

my baby mostly nurses, but i pump after every feed and use that milk for one bottle in the evening, which dh gives so i can get a slightly longer stretch of sleep. doing that has been a lifesaver for me - getting up every 2 hrs was extremely exhausting, so not good for me or the baby.

as my milk supply increases i am also using the expressed milk during the day once in a while if i need to be away from the baby for longer than 2 hours.

at first i was iffy about pumping, but now i'm glad i do it because it offers me more flexibility in my day to day life... jmo. good luck!!

As someone who HAD to pump for their daughter (for a year) all I will say is to keep your plan open so that you can work thru issues that could arise.
Find a really good LC and keep her number with you in the hospital and on your frig. Do NOT hestiate to get help.
I think all women who BF should get
A Nursing Mother's Companion Guide in the hospital. It was a life saver.

With DD#1 I planned on trying nursing and only do it for a few months, well that turned into 16 months... I pumped in hopes she would take a bottle, but never did (well maybe a few times)... With DD#2 I will nurse her and pump again to have DH and Big Sister feed her once in a while.

I agree. You really should keep your options open. You may end up wanting pump to relieve engorgement if your baby has any trouble feeding or you may need to pump for a variety of reasons. I started to pump when my baby was in NICU.

totally agree!!! Our baby spent much of my maternity stay under phototherapy lights, so BF'ing wasn't possible. She was also readmitted to the hospital for 2 days after being discharged. I pump almost exclusively, so she is getting the same benefits, just in a different container!

I agree!!!!! I was definate that I wouldn't use bottles for at least 6 weeks. I was hospitalized for a while after a horrible delivery and DS was sent home. My plan had to be modified just 6 days after birth.

We do hope you don't have a problem. We are just saying to keep your options open. Enjoy!!!!!!

This was my plan. I wasn't even going to buy bottles or a pump until after he was born! Thank goodness I listened to friends and this board and decided better safe than sorry.

For many reasons I had to start using a pump and bottles at two weeks (cracked, bleeding nipples, infection requiring antibiotics etc.). At 9 wks I am still BF - pumping and using bottles less - only to get some sleep! But, just wanted to say you really never know what your experience BF is going to be until DC is here. I have learned that personally and seen that with friends.

hahaha, yeh exactly. plus i'm gonna be a SAHM so i feel no need to pump or share the responsibility of feeding

I think that is great but I want to suggest to keep your options open. Once your supply is well established, there is nothing wrong with having your dh give the baby a bottle here and there of expressed breast milk. You may need the break. Just an idea, good luck
