Preggers Teachers
When and How did you tell your students you were preggers? I'm 12 wks 3 days and just starting to show a tiny bit. I feel like I should tell them in the next few weeks. I have 6th and 7th graders and I'm due May 10, so I'll be leaving school early this year.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I am 15w, a fifth grade teacher and def. showing. I was going to wait until Thanksgiving to tell the kids - do something cute like "I am thankful for..." and figured they would tell their parents. My principal has the mindset that tell them if they ask but don't send a letter home.
Unfortunatly at school today one of my parents was doing a project in a siblings classroom and when she saw me she went "Oh my goodness, you are pregnant." She was great but I was so flustered. Plus we were on a field trip on Friday and one of the mothers from my class asked the para if I was pregnant. I quess rumors are out there. Next week is conferences so we'll see if I get any inquiries about my delicate condition!

Re: Preggers Teachers
I found out I was pg in May of last year so I didn't tell them. When I came back this year it was very obvious that I was pregnant. I teach high school so my students from last year saw me and basically yelled it down the hallway.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I wrote it in my morning message to my kindergarteners from last year. I told them I had a fun secret to share and if they could guess what it could be.
one of my boys told me i was preg when it was really early, so he knew what it was
they were really cute about it!

Re: Preggers Teachers
I don't know when I am going to tell them. I might not tell them I don't know. I am 12 weeks and I have been starting to show a little since this is #2 for me. My 7th graders probably have no clue and probably just think that I have no taste in clothes. My 8th graders especially the ones that had me in 7th also I think suspect that something is going on.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I am 14.5 weeks and I teach 7/8th graders and high school. They probably suspect, I can see it. I am waiting for them to say something. I just don't feel that it is appropriate to tell them.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I told my 4th graders last year right after telling the faculty b/c I know "certain" teachers would have broken the news to my class b4 me. I just told them I had a big secret I wanted to share w/ them. They were adorable...I had "baby guards" all year who would pick things up if they dropped, hold doors for me; pick up/carry things for me etc.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I was just wondering when to do this. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow, and am showing but my 4th graders haven't noticed. I told my principal at 12 weeks and staff at 13 weeks. I am really worried about the parents because I will be leaving in the end of March.
I was thinking of having them guess the sex before Thanksgiving because I have my level 2 scheduled for the 21st.
Maybe I will tell them next week. The pink and blue cupcakes is a fun idea I may have to steal!

Re: Preggers Teachers
I just old my principal on Friday... I was so relieved it went well. This is my tenure year and Im due in May...but she said it won't be a problem and I should still get tenure this year...thank goodness. Im hoping to wait till thanksgiving....however I have a field trip to the farm tomorrow and there is a bumpy hay-ride that you can't go on when pregnant. Im sure the parents are going to put it together.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I told my students and the faculty at 12 weeks. People were asking me or my close friends at work because I had put on some weight. I found out the night before I had my tenure meeting with my principal that I was preggers.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I waited until the day after my level II. Parents were talking, but I didn't feel comfortable telling yet. I told my second graders in a morning message and then I read the book- Our Teacher's Having a Baby

Who is the author of that book? Sounds like a great way to tell them!! I teach first and due June 22, so I may take off starting in June. When do you get your level II? I am only 8weeks but many good friends at work know we have been trying and I told the school nurse, she is great and lets me know any rashes or on the lookout for 5th disease. This is my tenure year too! I am up for it in June and worried about it. My princial is great though and hoping she will be wonderful when I tell her.

The author is Eve Bunting. This is the book that I read to my class as well.

I was 12w when school started. I told them right away! I teach 3rd grade and my main concern was that they be careful around me- esp in the stairwells.

Re: Preggers Teachers
I'm a music therapist in a preschool so I see every child in the school. I didn't think it was necessary to inform their parents and I waited till the kids asked me!! its amazing how perseptive preschoolers are! Some asked if I had a "baby in my belly" around 14 weeks...If they ask I tell them, if not I ignore it. Most of their classroom teachers have mentioned it to them though.
ETS: 1 of my adorable kids asked if the baby got in there because I ate it That was great!

Re: Preggers Teachers
When school started I was 19 weeks. Most parents already knew, and the kids as well. AFter school started I sent home a letter telling the parents that I was pregnant and when I was due - I never officially told the kids., but obviously they know.
