signing with your twins

Before I got pregnant I wanted to buy the signing kit and teach it to my future baby. I believe that it would help with communication way before the baby would be able to speak. Well, now with having two, I wonder if it will be even reasonable to think I can teach two babies how to sign. Has anyone done this or should I just forget it?

Re: signing with your twins

I am fluent in sign language and have signed with my twins from the beginning (they are 20 mos now). I also used the Baby Einstein Baby's First Signs DVD which they love. It was really useful before they could speak for them to communicate with me - "eat", "more", "all done" and even "sleep". In fact, I have a cute story about that: One day, I put the boys in their cribs for naps and left, but I was peeking through the crack in the door. Benjamin started babbling to Timothy but Timothy looked at Benjamin and signed, "Sleep! Sleep!" and put his head down to go to sleep! It was the most amazing thing!

Even though the boys are slowly building their vocabulary, they still sign and learn new ones all the time.

It's been a great experience for us - if you decide to go ahead with it, I think you will find it rewarding!

Re: signing with your twins

I am far from fluent in sign, but I too used that baby einstein dvd as well as just learning some basic signs and I did use them with my boys when they were little. They are speech impaired and I really believed it helped decrease their frustration to a degree. I truthfully used about 5 or 6 signs regularly, but it did work! Go for it!!

I've been doing "more" - I think they are getting it confused with Itsy Bitsy Spider though so, so far no good. I keep trying though. Chat Icon
