I try to keep as little in there as possible because the interest is higher in our money market account.

I only keep enough in there to pay our bills and cover "allowances".

My first mortgage payment is due Aug 1st. So sadly not as much as I would like.

We always have enough to cover the bills I send out and the a "cushion" for whatever else we should want. I chose option 2.

Around $500 - and it gets replenished at each billing cycle. I'd rather keep my money in our savings acct/money market acct (more interest).

only the only to cover the bills and gas

when I get paid I transfer everything I don't need to my 5% account

I also have checking plus- so if I want to buy something with my debit card- I can use it as a credit card and then transfer the money from another acount!

Just enough to cover bills and expenses. Any extra money from our checks gets autmatically transferred to our savings

Because my checking is tied to my debit card - I keep pretty much just enough for the bills that are coming up plus an extra hundred or so a week. That way I can minimize any damage if my card is lost or stolen.

Everything else is in savings or in other accounts.

Over $3000...I never want to bounce a check, so I'd rather have too much in there rather than too little.

after bills, i like to have a cushion of about $700 - $1000

i try not to go below $300 ever

I keep between 2-3K. The rest is in a high interest savings account. The bigger amount is brokerage and is never touched only added to!

The checking and savings account work like an operating account. Cash flow is the name of the game.

Mine varies dramatically thru-out the year..... Anywhere from -200 to +5000k....

I would like the keep the minimum possible but DH is afraid of a situation where we would need to get to our cash fast- like a terrorist attack or something
