A little rant - pediatrician
so we had our first pediatrician visit today... David is doing great, he gained back what he lost in the hospital... anyways, so the doctor asks me if we have a cat or dog and I said that we have a cat... she plain out loud told me to get rid of it because it will cause my child to get allergies... I told her I am not getting rid of it, she looked at me like I had three heads or something... I dont want to judge her just on this visit alone but I would think that as a doctor she would be more open minded...
am I the only one with a cat?

I have 3 cats.....I thought that exposing them to cats would help with teh allergies. But I plan to get a air purifier to help get the dander out of the air.

Total BS on the Peds. part! What an azz! IMHO I had plenty of cats and a dog and none of my kids got allergies from it!

I have a cat and a dog, and I think if they are exposed to it early on they will NOT get allergies from them.
I cant believe your PED told you to get rid of your cat

Um, I say get rid of the Ped. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
If you keep the cat out of the baby's clothes, crib, etc..and keep the litter & house clean then what is the problem?
I grew up with cats & dogs (and birds & lizards) and I have no allergies at all.

ITA!!
My parents had SEVEN cats and a dog when I was born and I have NO allergies to pets. Interestingly enough, my DH had a dog and no cats and he is allergic to cats.

I have 5 cats and 2 big dogs, get rid of your pedo!!!! what a whacko- it has been on CNN on how exposing a baby to animals decreases their risks of developing allergies!!!!
I'd be nervous to stay with that pedo- whats next out of her mouth

thanks girls, I feel much better now, she just made me feel so bad for wanting to keep my cat... but my Speedy is like my baby, I could never get rid of her just because we had a baby  arent there people that did not grow up with a cat and still have allergies? arghhh!
