Uh hello where is my Thank you
DH & I sent nephew ( on his side of the family) a gift for his new baby girl, the gift was a beautiful rocking horse with her name painted on it etc. Anyway we shipped it off out of the country it cost us a pretty penny....this is the thank you we get ..VIA Email..
here is a picture of our DD daughter Blah blah blah..oh and by the way thanks for the gift.
Would you be annoyed? I think we deserve a phone call or a written thank you.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
You know, maybe before I had children I might have answered differently, but I dont think it was necessarily rude.
I remember after having my 1st- being sooo overwhelmed- both DH & I have huge families and we received so many gifts at one time that I dont even know who gave me what.
Normally I would never let a thank you card slip thru the cracks- but between dealing with a new baby in the house and all the gifts, I remember feeling so bad that I know I unitentionally left out a few thank you's! I think that they might have worded it awkwardly, but that WAS their thank you, and was good enough(JMO!)

I have to agree with this. However, they probably could have worded it better.

I don't have kids so I can't speak from experience. but I can tell you that every single baby gift I have ever sent to family or friends was acknowledged with a TY card

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
Even if they didn't keep track of who gave them what and were completely overwhelmed there is no excuse for an email thank you and the way it was worded.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
umm, I dont know- i guess I dont see the big deal because there are so many more important things in life to be mad at than the way a thank you was worded or sent.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
I think thats okay...did they actually say OH by the way?
I did a lot of that, took a picture of the kid in an outfit and sent if off to the person who sent it saying thank you.
I am notoriously crap with thank you notes since the kid came and I have gone back to work, so no one reading this send me anything. You won't get a thank you (unless its by email)

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
I have mixed feeling about this one.
On one side, I think an actual thank you card would have been better.
On the other hand, with a due date in just a few days, I can totally relate to an email.
Just see the bright side of it, at least they thanked you.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
How long ago did you send the gift? Is it possible the email was just a first thank you and the written one is in the mail? With the amount of time international mail takes, perhaps they wanted to let you know they got it while you were waiting for the thank you. At least they sent SOMETHING.

Ugh, how rude. I felt awful b/c I wasn't able to finish all of my bridal shower thank yous until the Wed after the shower -- I wanted to finish them the next day. I can't imagine just not sending a thank you!

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
I would be mad. First off an email thank you and then saying oh by the way.
Yes there is a lot going on after having a baby but I still sent a thank you out to everyone that sent a gitft, even flowers!!!
It doesn't take that long to send them out. Babies sleep, do it then.
Did they send out announcements?

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
If you have the time to take a picture, upload it into a computer and type on a keyboard, you have the time to send a proper thank you. These people are lame.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
I would be so Pizzed. We recieved SO many gifts (flowers arrived at the hospital 2 hours after DS was born) and the gifts continued for a good 2-3 months!!! You don't know how many packages of TY cards and stamps we went through. The card store (thank goodness 50% off) and the post office LOVED dh and I during that time. I simply made lists, as I sent out the TY cards, I checked them. Not That Hard.

I think its horrendous - but it saves you from ever giving them a gift again. At least thats how I feel these days when I don't get a thank you

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
I'd think it was a little strange, but I'd be glad she at least got the gift and acknowldeged it. But, I'm not one to "expect" a thank you when I decide to give a gift. If I don't get thanked, I'll be hesitant to giving that person another gift.

Re: Uh hello where is my Thank you
Irrelevant to the type of gift or the cost a thank you card or phone call is definitely required no matter how busy you are and this is coming from a mom with a 16mth old how works from home and takes care of my DD full time as well.
I ALWAYS send thank you cards no matter how busy I am even if I am writing them cross eyed at midnight.
The way I look at it is someone went out of their way to buy something for my DD and the least I can do is acknowledge it in a way that is respectful. "oh and by the way" does not cut it in my book.
