Need name advice

My brother's wife ( who is pregnant) told me the name they picked if they have a girl.
It's the same name we were going to use when and if we have a girl.

What would you do? Choose another name. Would it be odd for me and my brother to use the same name

Using the same name wasn't for me. The best thing you can do is for a boy.

You should say that you had the same name picked for a girl at one point. If she has a boy, & then you have a girl, you'll have to hear how you stole her name.

If they have a girl and use the name, then I'd find another name. If it were cousins I'd say that it was fine if you had children with the same name, but siblings is a different story.

I'd find another name. My friend's SIL had a baby about 8 weeks before her brother (my friend's BIL) had a daughter and they both named them the same name. The cousins went to the same daycare and now the same preschool. The other kids parents (including my friend who is their aunt) would be confused about which "Janey" their child was talking about, as they even somewhat resemble each other. After any party my friend is always saying how confused the kids are when someone calls their name and how stupid BIL was to name her the same name.

I was in a similar situation and was ok with them taking the name we picked and we were the ones preggo first and first to say the name. DH and I picked a girls name and told my mom - I was probably in my early 2nd trimester. My brother and his wife who weren't preggo asked my mom if I picked names and when my mom said the girls name they kind of laughed and were like ut-oh that is the same name we have picked for a girl. When I found out - I guess at first I was like weird but then I said whoever gets the girl first gets the name. Well about 3 months later they were pregnant....I had a boy and they had a girl so they have the name. It doesn't bother me at all. Actually now that I am preggo again - I still like the name but I have a few names I am liking better. The only issue is the name DH and I love most is very similar to that name and not sure if I can use it for that reason - different name just similar sounding. In the end a name's a name and when you are preggo and have a baby you may not even like the name anymore. I'd just let them know taht was the name you always had in your head - just in case they don't have the first girl!!

My sister and I were both pregnant at the same time and we both had the name Jacob for a boy. She lives in Florida and Im here on the Island. In the end it didnt matter b/c she wound up having a boy and I had girls (twins). If we both had boys I had planned on calling him Jacob and my sister calls her son Jake..
