What in the sam's hell?
OK, so we moved into our house in January. It's a pretty big size lot and a relatively small house, so LOTS of grass and foiliage. DH hired someone to come seed, level, and whatever it is they do because the grass was a mess (big dog and also big plans by the previous owner who suddednly had to relocate)
Anyhoo, this grass is DH's freakin' baby. He waters it and tends to it every day(and at 60X175, it takes a LOT of time for him to water...he's like an old man watching to see if anyone is messing up his lawn)
So the grass started to come in all nice in the patches (and weeds) and DH borrowed a lawnmower from my cousin down the block to mow it this week. Throws his back out and can't do it, so fine, we'll wait. Now the grass and weeds are getting a little higher so DH says he definitely needs to get to it this weekend.
He comes home yesterday...
someone mowed our front lawn
and we have NO idea, zero clue who did it. We thought it mighta been senile neighbor next door, but the cut ENDS at his property line on the sidewalk area (BIG difference)
so who in the sam's hell mowed our lawn????????

my Dad used to mow our neighbor's front lawn if he didn't like how it looked next to ours- since he was already out there it would just take him a few extra minutes

we have her lawnmower as we are still waiting to buy ours (what for I have no idea.)
And her DH...definitely not gonna do it for us...
The kicker is that DH is totally pizzed because he wanted to mow "his" lawn...
in fact, he was mowing it when I left for work this morning
ETA: Beth, other than senile old man, we don't have a neighbor...the house next to us is the corner from the other block and it's renters...
Thanks for the ideas though, I am really scratching my head here.

Maybe the previous owners used a landscaping/lawn care service and just never told them not to come back this year....
My landscaper shows up whenever he thinks the time is right - never checks with us first...

yeah this is what I was thinking. FH rents and his landlord has landscapers who just come on some schedule known only to them. LOL

It wasn't even THAT long, that's why we can see the difference with Senile man, his is CRAZY long...
and they didn't do the backyard, so I really have no idea.

This happened to us as well. We thought it was nice of one of the neighbors to do that for us until the bill from the landscaper came in. The previous owner moved out in May and he did theres so he kept it up while the house was in contract as a favor to us and then when we moved in kept doing it and then billed us. He probably would not have made us pay if we didn't want to because we never really contracted for his services but we kept him. DH thinks that is how they get new business when clients move away.

I would think maybe a neighbor...when we first moved in there was a snow storm and by the time we got home from work our walk, sidewalk and driveway were all snowblown....we found out later that it was a combination of our neighbors who had done it

my old landscapers showed up at our house and mowed, while I was in the shower. I quickly got dresses and ran outside to stop them, but the were basically finished.
I called the owner of the old co...and she told me that I never called them to stop the service. I reminded her that our contract expired at the end of last season...and she was the one who told us that they were really too busy to continue doing home service, and we should look for a new landscaper...so we did.
They did a horrible job too...I was so mad. New landscaper showed up a little while afterwards...he was mad too, because he spent 2 days the previous wekk making our yard look so nice and neat...he had to wait 2 days and come back to fix mess they made of my yard.

Your DH should meet my DH. They have a "lawn obsession" in common... DH sometimes toys with the idea of mowing the neighbors lawn becuase it can get "un-sightly", but he's an elderly man and I think it would make him upset.
But that is strange, but I swear my DH was no where near your house because that is something he would do!

Our neighbor's lawn is weeds galore. It's not like I take care of our own lawn (DH does) but I am tempted to mow theirs. I've thought about it several times.
