Family Vent
I had a family BBQ yesterday and 2 things really annoyed me and I just wanted to vent here among friends.
1) When I told my dad the baby's name, he made a face and said he never liked that name and started making joking rhyming comments. 
2) I don't look HUGE but I feel big and that I have a PG belly not a fat belly and my sister says I am not even showing? If she didnt know me and saw me at the mall lets say, she would think I had a beer belly. 
All I did was smile and let it roll off my back. Thanks for letting me vent.

family is the worst, aren't they?? why do they think its ok to tell us we look awful or make fun of our babies names..

First off
Second, I've seen you post pics and you look GREAT - def. pg and NOT fat. I got a few comments like that and I think people just don't realize what they are sayinig - they actually think they are being nice. What made me start to feel better was when people like my doorman or in the elevator would notice and ask me if I was expecting - and I would then tell my sister (who sounds like yours) - SEE I obviously look pg and not fat  This didn't start happening until the last week or so though and i am 23 weeks.
I know what you mean about the name thing too. Before we knew if it was a boy or girl I told MIL the name we had picked out for a girl and she made a face and said - How will you expect her to spell that? Why would you pick such a difficult name to spell - HOW crazy is that?
People suck sometimes

it sucks but you just have to ignore everyones opinions, family or not.
My dad made a comment about me wearing fitted tank tops when I went to visit him in FL. Mind you, they were long tank tops and I layered 2 of them! He made it out like I'm supposed to wear loose shirts...not tight ones that show my belly. Like am I supposed to be ashamed of it or something?? Maybe back in the day this is what they did, but I found his comment more rude and ignorant of him rather than hurtful. We can't let dumb comments get to us!!

I will never understand why people lose the ability to keep comments to themselves when they are around pregnant women.
I bet you anything your Dad will eat his words the minute he holds that beautiful baby in his hands. I can't imagine that his teasing will ever reach the baby's ears - he'll probably love the name. So sorry you had to deal with that.
And I agree - I have seen your pics - you look great!!!!!

It's as if I wrote the one about your father. He did the exact same thing to me when I told him and still does....it makes me nuts...I am at the point where I don't care anymore and neither will you. It's the name (s) you love and that's all there is to it.

I always preface it with "No comments on the names please, otherwise I share nothing!" LOL. Seems to work for my mom so far, hahahah.
I am sorry your dad did that!
As for the belly, everyone has been really nice so far telling me I am carrying well, etc .... Then yesterday some lady I do not even know at a party said to me "You got some belly for only 1/2 way there!" I wanted to SPIT on her!

I'm so sorry, that really sux. Family can just be so insensitive.
I'd have really put my father in his place if he did that. People don't realize sometimes the things they say will not easily if ever be forgotten. We aren't announcing our choice of name until she's born just for this reason.
I'm blown away by your sister's comment. I just looked at your album and you have the cutest little belly. I'll bet she is jealous.
You are a better person than I am, just smiling and letting it go. I'll try to take a lesson from you.

I find family can be more insensitive than strangers. I got a few comments about our chosen name too but you know what-its our kid.
As for your belly-mama you are all baby and I dont "know" you but you definitely look pregnant

Thanks girls!
See, in my family we speak our minds and are very honest (maybe too honest sometimes) so I can take it all with a grain (or canister) of salt.
When my dad was making the jokes, I smiled too because my dad RARELY jokes around, its nice to see him laugh and smile.
My sister on the other hand is SO excited to have a preggo sister so I think she wants "instant gratification" with a big waddling sister to be around.
They love me and I know it wasnt meant to be mean but I guess if something hurts my feelings with all these raging hormones it makes it seem worse.

 That doesnt sound like something she would say. BUT at the same time I know your family is awfully honest so I wouldnt worry too much about the comments.
Also, what type of shirt were you wearing?

i agree! you look great. she prob meant that in a complimentary way. as for the names - choose what you like - you're not going to please everyone. Everyone has to stick their cents in where it doesnt' belong

OMG - I got that ALL the time!!! It was so annoying!!!
also - I purposely did not share the names with ANYONE for fear of someone saying somehting stupid about the name!

Making fun of the name you picked? That one is kinda harsh. I am sorry you were put through that People will forever express their own opinions from names to how you will raise your children. I guess we have to learn to just let certain things slide. After some of the insensitive comments I heard after losing my son and then dealing with INF, nothing really surprises me anymore.
As far as your sister - depending on what clothing you wear shows the belly even more. Was your shirt hiding most of you?
