No, I really do not think one has to do with the other. Plently of people do not wait until the first trimester is over, including my self. I think it is a personal decision when you feel like letting people know. When I was pg with my first I told my office at 10 weeks.

I understand how you feel, but think of it this way - if you wait, she can't steal your thunder so to speak. but if you want to be the first, then by all means go ahead. I have only told those really close to me even though most people suspect it at work. Do what makes you comfortable!
