What would you do in this situation?

I had my level II a week ago. We were told it was a boy, but now I'm doubting it. The tech did all the organs, then quickly moved between the legs. She then said 'There's the scrotum', then stopped scanning and turned the machine off. My husband and I just stared and said 'What? It's a boy?' I know she knows what she saw, but she did it so quickly that we didn't see a damn thing. Is it normal to only see the scrotum for 2 seconds and make a decision? We have no pics, nothing.

Should I ask if there are pics of the male area? Should I ask to speak to the doctor? I figured we'd really see stuff at the next sono, but I hear there might not be another. What do I do? Chat Icon

TIA!!!!!!!

i wasnt sure if i should be completely positive it was a boy either, but ive heard that if they tell you boy its pretty accurate...there is a greater chance they are wrong if they tell you girl (you either see it or you dont Chat Icon)
if you dont get another sono maybe you can do the 3d pics to ease your doubt??

Re: What would you do in this situation?

One lesson I just learned is to speak up. I was unhappy with the tech at my 12 week appt. I let it bother me for an entire month! This week at my 16 week appt. I told my doctor how I felt completely rushed at my last visit. He was then kind enough to give us a sono where he took time to show us the baby in detail. I felt so much better. You have every right to speak up. Next time if I am unhappy with the tech, I will tell her!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Mine was totally unexciting too. She was like "do you want to know the sex?" we were like "YES" and she goes "it's a boy" and then goes on to talk about something else.

We were totally let down, I know its their job, but those techs should have a little bit of excitment to their voicesChat Icon Chat Icon

works like a charm lol

I have had a sono tech and my doc claim its a girl. My doc got a good look between the legs and we didnt see a penis but like you I have my doubts.
I keep thinking something is going to change within the next few weeksChat Icon Like her penis might have been hiding or something lol

Oddly enough, we were never asked if we wanted to know. It was all so weird.

I don't think they will just give you another sono so you can have more pics and ensure the sex of the baby. They do the Level II to make sure everything is okay with the baby, the organs are normal etc., not to find out the sex.

we were lucky b/c my tech knew how badly we wanted to know, so she purposely held off and checked everything else firstChat Icon when she finally got to the area, she showed us his area and then went over it a second time just to confirm it (which is why she told us 99.9% its a boy) as well as gave us a picture of it, plus another tech came in that i used to work with and she confirmed what a nice picture the other tech got of his areaChat Icon
point of story, let them know you were not happy and you just want it confirmed that its really a boy

Re: What would you do in this situation?

Where did you go for the sono? If its Huntington hospital, the woman we had at the 12 wk was awful, and then after that we had another dr. each time and he was incredible....

How do you know her insurance will cover it? Sonos are fun for us, but doctor's don't want to tell people to just have them so they can get more pictures or anything else.

I have good insurance and after the 20 week sono there had to be a medical reason (i.e. a growth sono) to have one.

It is a shame that the tech stunk, mine did too (I had the same one for my level II and my growth sono), but unfortunately that is kind of how it goes. SorryChat Icon

Re: What would you do in this situation?

We were told at the 20 wk & it was so matter of fact....we were like are you sure....then I had my dr. confirm but she kept saying well without seeing the sono "live" sometimes its hard to tell....we're basing the nursery on what was told to us but part of me is still questioning it...

Re: What would you do in this situation?

I'm sorry you had a crappy tech!
I had to go to measure my cervix, wasn't even the level II yet.... she asked if I wanted to know and then look and had a great "money shot".

I think it's pretty hard to miss if it's a boy, however, I can understand your concern. When is your next appt. Can you discuss it w/ your Dr. then and hopefully, he/she can give you confirmation.

Nope, my friend was told that her last TWO babies were boys and both are girls. The newest baby girl has LOTS of blue clothes. Her husband so wanted a boy but they have 3 girls.Chat Icon

You should ask for pictures and a more detailed sono next time. Chat Icon

That is so sad. When u buy stuff and its not what u thought. I can see how it happened though. Both the vagina and scrotum are swollen so its easy to mistake girl for a little boy if they dont see the ovaries clearly. I made the decision that I am not buying any dresses. Layette items in neutral colors only until this lil one comes out. The room have taupe and ivory paint just in case too.Chat Icon
