why are women mean

I dont know if i posted about this women before but here it goes again:
so one of my co-workers who i am also friendly with, always says to me, every week, oh you got so big, etc and then goes on to tell me how much weight she lost, and how many pant sizes she dropped, etc. so today once again she goes on and on about how big she thinks i got, so i tell her well i am almost 8 months pregnant and i would be worried if i hadnt gained weight, and how i plan on exercising after the baby, and eating well to get back into shape, and shes like oh and you werent all that heavy before you gave birth, so at that point i had had it! so i said to her well i was a size 2 before becoming pregnant, so yeah i am sure i look bigger now obviously...and she got all flustered and i left
so a little while later, i go back into the classroom and three of the teachers assitants ask me how far i am and when i am due and they are all like wow your carrying so good, you look so tiny, etc. etc (and they were not being fake or rude) so i guess my co-worker couldnt handle them complimenting me on the way i look and she refused to particpate in the convos, wouldnt look at me and just left the room! like it pained her so much for someone to not think i was not such a house,
point of story, women are so caddy and jealous, shes not the first to make comments and seem happy i put on weight (whihc is so normal and expected wheh preggos-hello), so many women i know from friends to family are so thrilled that i am now pregnant looking and its just so rudeChat Icon they are prob hoping i dont go back to my pre-preggo weight too
Has anyone else encountered this?

I haven't encountered it- but I'm sorry that woman feels the need to be such a b!tch.

Take solace in knowing that at almost 8 months PG, she's STILL jealous that you're so tiny!

She's probably jealous of you being beautiful even when preggo that she needs to put you down verbally in order to make herself look better...pay no mind to people like thatChat Icon

i agree, some women can be SO catty and rude.

i also think it's interesting that once a woman is pregnant, it's considered entirely acceptable to have a running commentary about her weight.

obviously it would NEVER fly to tell a non-pregnant woman, "wow, you are SO big! you must be as big as a house!".

i guess people think it's okay because pregnant women are supposed to gain weight - there is a "reason" for it. but that doesn't make it any less hurtful to hear your name in the same sentence as "big as a house". Chat Icon

i agree - it is hurtful. They were probably always envious of you and now for the first time they get to see you "not slim" - stupid them. Dress your best and flaunt your beautiful pregnancy content glow!! Chat Icon

eta: i was recently at a bridal shower and of course my pg was a topic - i had those that said i'm not showing (i have gained weight so i know something is showing) and then someone chimed in with "oh she'll be getting huge soon" Chat Icon

i know how you feel...this happens all the time at work to me too. i work almost entirely with women. some are genuinely compliment me and there are those who seem to be keeping tabs on my weight gain and comment on it all the time. one even asked if i was sure there was really "only one in there" Chat Icon -unreal. and the above poster is right that being PG does not give people the right to be able to say WHOA you're getting big! but they do...(sigh) i am sure you look beautiful! Ive always been able to lose the weight no problem...the latest Ive gotten from a couple of "friends" is the ol' "you know your older now so you probably wont bounce back again"...I guess Im soooo ancient at 34...I told the last one one that that was my incentive to lose all the weight..just to prove her wrong

Re: why are women mean

Oh yeah..I work with a know-it-all, who is insisting that it was a waste of time for me to lose weight & manage my health issues before becoming PG b/c I will not have the "willpower or desire" to do it "all over again" once the baby's born.Chat Icon

First off, had I not controlled my health issues I could not have gotten PG, IMO, and secondly, she is totally jsut jealous b/c years later SHE STILL HAS ALL HER PG WEIGHT. Whatever, that's your decision & I never said anything bad to her about it, but don't try to stuff me in that same pigeonhole....

stupid people

Re: why are women mean

It's about self-estime. It makes them feel "better" by knowing someone is bigger than they are. Problem is... you are pregnant and it's a temporary gain weight.

They transpose their own insecurities and image issues into your pregnancy.

Not your fault! Ignore them!
