Splenda
Yes or No?
Some reports say YES then there are the ones that say NO...
Its not absorbed by the body so it cant cross the placenta so I know that it cant directly hurt the baby....
Did your doctor mention artificial sweeteners?
I had Gestational Diabetes last time around and used Splenda and Aspartame with NO ill effects but Im just trying to prepare myself for the near future...There is no way you can tell a pregnant women that she cant have anything sweet except fruit!!!! Its just NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Re: Splenda
My doctor gave the thumbs up on it and I have used it throughout my pregnancy - in moderation of course.

Same here. He told me to stay away from Sweet N Low, but all others are okay in moderation.

Re: Splenda
My doctor said it was fine - but dont go crazy with it. . . which is good because I'm loving crystal light in my last trimester.

Re: Splenda
I have GD and see a diabetic nutritionist every two weeks. I was surprised she recommended I use Splenda or Equal. I had never used these in the past because I don't like the idea of eating these chemicals. I was so desperate for something sweet, though, that I started using the Splenda. Unfortunately, it didn't agree with me at all and I couldn't continue using it, but then I tried Equal and it was fine. After a couple of weeks, I just didn't feel good about eating it, though, and experimented with a little sugar in my coffee instead. I found that my numbers still come out ok so that is what I have been doing. Everything I have read indicates that Splenda and Equal are safe in that they do not reach or adversely affect the fetus, though, and my OB and nutritionist also said this so if you would like to use it should be just fine.

Re: Splenda
Thanks everyone!!!
My doctor said NO on any and all artificial sweeteners...But I got the feeling that this was a more personal answer than a medical one..(health nut type of guy)
My husband had asked the few women that are pregnant that work with him and all their doctors either said YES to Splenda or YES to Splenda or Equal...
So far my doctor is the only one that said NO to all..
I stopped for the first 12 weeks but now I use it in my Tea and I have a couple of glasses of "lite" Ocean Spray a day....

Re: Splenda
I never used artificial sweetners before or during pg but I do have a little story about Splenda..
Back in 03 when the South Beach Diet first came out, I bought a box of Splenda to make brownies for my now DH.
I followed a recipe from the box. When I took them out of the oven they smelled strange... "chemically" not like typically baked brownies. So I went to cut them and noticed the entire batch PEELED out of the pan like Fruit Roll Ups all in one piece.
Now I can be quite the chocoholic... I really can't resist but this just made me want to vomit Even the dog left the room!!! So in the garbage they went.
After that I could never put that substance in my body.

Yuck!!! I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners either, don't like the taste, actually. But this is gross!
