What are your thoughts on........

2 family houses? Does anyone here own one and live in one? DH and I are about to once again begin our house hunt. Originally we were looking in Western Suffolk Cnty (W. Islip, N. Babylon) to be close to my mom but she has now decided to sell and move to Bayside. We are thinking of Nassau county but I'm not too familiar with many good towns with good school districts for our future kids. I do know that the taxes and houses are more expensive so we were thinking that we may buy a 2 family to help out. Our original budget was around $350-375 tops but I was thinking with a two family we can go a little higher. Any thoughts on this? Any experience? Thanks. Oh if anyone knows of good towns in Nassau please feel free to chime in.

I live in a 2 family house right now that I am renting from my parents. The lady that lives upstairs is like 85 years old, so she is a perfect neighbor. She's very quiet and obviously doesnt move around alot.

But, if it were a family or someone who liked to party up there, I would hate it.
If you go that route, I suggest living upstairs and renting out the downstairs if possible.

If your range is $350-$375 levitton would be a great nassau town to start in. There taxes in some areas are a little high. Also there are other great towns in nassau that could be in your price range...houses have come down recently. I don't live in a 2 family but I grew up in one but really it was my grandparents that have lived there so there was never anyone that we didn't know living in the house. I think it depends on you & your DH and what you guys want to do. Good luck.

i'm showing some legal 2 family houses to a buyer next weekend in Lynbrook. there are actually quite a few nice houses for under $600k in this area. check out there. good luck!
