Blurry Vision *UPDATED AGAIN - Please don't ignore headaches/blurry vision*

Mornin' Ladies!!

Ever since last night, I've had blurry vision in my left eye and when I woke up this morning it is much worse. If I cover my right eye, I can't even see my left eye in the mirror... that's how bad it is. Do you think this is related to pregnancy somehow? My OB office doesn't open until 9am, and I'm just wondering if I should even bother with my OB or go straight to my eye doctor. I don't wear glasses or contacts so this is VERY weird. Has anyone had experience with this.. it's scaring the hell out of my bc it's the worst feeling EVER. Chat Icon

TIA! Chat Icon

*UPDATE*

Ok my eyes are getting worse and my f'n doctor won't call me back!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I called back 2x this afternoon and the receptionist is being the biggest b!tch to me... One of the doctor's called in sick today, so they are short-handed. I understand that but I'm pretty sure in the last 5.5 hours he's had FIVE MINUTES to call me back.

IDK what to do... I work in NYC and I really can't see well enough to even walk myself to the subway. I have to hold 1 eye shut to even type this and even then it's blurry.

Any advice?!? My Mom is about to call there again and raise hell but I won't let her.

*UPDATE II*

So after 4 days of blurry vision and being told this was *normal* in pregnancy, my OB referred me to a Neurologist. After seeing the Neurologist, he sent me to an Opthamologist who did several eye exams including a Visual Field test.

Turns out I have a condition called Vasculitis which in turn caused Optic Neuritis which is inflammation of my Optic Nerves. This is an extremely serious condition that could lead to permanent vision loss. I am being admitted into the hospital tomorrow for 3 days of steroid treatments. They say this is safe during pregnancy, but I am still very nervous.

Please send some prayers my way!! And PLEASE do not ignore headaches/vision issues. It's so not worth it! I will update everyone when I'm back at home!!

Thanks ladies.

Re: Blurry Vision

My eye sight has been horrible this whole pregnancy. I wear glasses occassionally (for driving, computer, etc) and even they dont work. I told my doc. about it and that it gives me headaches and she said it was normal... I was reading in one of my baby books the other day that a change in eye sight is normal. I would still bring it up to your dr. but don't worry, you are probably fine.

Thanks so much!

I actually just did some research and came up with this exact post from someone...

'Just curious on what blurry vision could mean? A couple weeks ago My left eyes vision got blurry and i was feeling really weird not sure how to exsplain what I was feeling tho, Then today My left eye went blurry again and had a weird feeling...Its not my whole vision just like the corner of my eye its just weird.. Its only happened twice.'

I could have written this word for word!

Many of the sites I've been reading say that this is common in the 2nd tri and that vision will go back to normal within 6 weeks of giving birth.

Am I going to have to deal with this til then?! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have heard pregnancy can change your Visions and eye shape. I know I have been getting migraines a lot and ( wear contacts) so I was thinking my vision may be changing.

I would call the obgyn, and also call the Eye Dr. Maybe you could also have an eye infection, or scatch?? Is it red at all?

Nope! Not red or irritated at all!
It just feels like one of my eyes is under water.. if that makes sense. My job is based around staring at this computer screen so it is not going to be an easy day..

Re: Blurry Vision

I would get it checked...

But..in Jenny Mcarthy's book belly laughs (although I know she isn't an expert) there is a whole part on blurred vision during pregnancy...that she had it and it happens.

but I'd still ask just in case..

They checked it yesterday at my Level II. They would have said something if it was high, right? Chat Icon

That's another conclusion that I'm finding online.. they say blurry vision is a sign of hypertension.

Ooooh the joys! Chat Icon

I dont mean to scare you, but I would not mess around with my vision. Can you get to the hospital?

Oh I absolutely know what you mean...

My doctor just called me back and told me that this is normal due to fluid shifts in the 2nd trimester... REALLY??? Sooooo, I'm supposed to not be able to see for the rest of my pregnancy?? I've NEVER heard of this in my life. I asked him if I should go see an eye doctor and he said no, bc my eye sight will continue to change throughout pregnancy. SUPER.

I agree...I would definitely find somewhere to get your blood pressure checked out. I'm sure you are fine, but it isn't something that you want to just assume...

I've loved him up until now but yesterday really turned me off completely. I don't want to switch doctor's at this point, but I'm really disappointed in the way he addressed this issue.

I'm now going on Day 2 with blurry vision. I got my BP checked and it's perfectly normal. I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it and see what happens... he says it's 'normal'. If I still feel this way on Monday, I'm going to see my general doctor and see what he says.

Re: Blurry Vision *UPDATE - P!SSED*

I'm an opthalmic tech....go see an eye doctor. That underwater vision can indicate a retinal tear, or bleeding in the back of the eye. I would advise any of my pts to come right over. Can be preggo related, but waiting on something like that, can leave you blind. Thing is, if you catch something early in those bad case senerios, most things are fixable. Good luck.
