Poor Lucas has no idea what he's in for
Of all the things I have passed down to my son...my stubborn determination seems to be full force with in the poor kid.
After our excellent meeting with the new pediatrician yesterday I decided (he didn't push it but gave me great info) to start moving Lucas to only one bottle a day (bedtime)
So this morning after he got out of the shower with DH I put him on the changing pad..he reached his arms out for a bottle and when he saw the sippy cup he flipped out on me...Looked me straight in the face and started crying - the ugly cry.
Unfortunately....it's MY stubborn determination and after 30 years I have mastered it so that was squashed fast.
30 Minutes later he was in his highchair eating cheerios...looked at me (I was standing in front of him holding the sippy cup - see how bad I am?) and reached his arms out for it...guzzled the whole thing
Lucas....I love you but don't mess with me

See that's the bad thing...I could never be that way with your cutie pies! It would break my heart if I made them cry...Lucas not so much.
I'm a bad mom

Yes, yes, I could use some help with Thomas too!!
You're a great mom!!
Thomas is down to one bottle a day too, but it's his morning bottle. We were able to completely cut out his bedtime bottle about a month ago.
Ang - what type of sippy are you using with Lucas? If you've seen any of my recent posts, I'm obessing about sippy cups!

I'm the same way. Watching my nephew - if he made a peep I picked him up....when Jack cries sometimes I just laugh at him- he's such a faker!

I need to have more guts with DS too. I am pretty good though. I dont let DS get the best of me all of the time.
And you are a good mom! He needs to know who is boss.

KateDevine recommended the sippy cups by First Year (two pack and the ones we have have a sesame street theme). She also recommended that I put a hole in the spout. He tried it out yesterday afternoon at daycare for the first time and they said it was great.
Before that he was using the Dr. Brown one.
Right now I put juice in the Dr. Brown one and milk in the First Year one - just until he understands that he can expect milk in the first year one...then I'll switch all liquids to his favorite cups.

Can you come over and help me get DS into the sippy cup idea? He freaks out completely when we try to give it to him.

Oh wow too funny... You are definitely a great Mom though, don't even go there lady
That said maybe you can give me pointers on the 'tough love' since my darling Niko STILL takes a bottle in the morning and night (and yes he is creeping up on 20 months old )

I have to share what helped me the most....
The doctor yesterday realized that I was looking at milk the same way I was looking at formula - as the primary calorie source. I was wrong...at this point with Lucas eating three meals and two snacks a day - the milk is more for the calcium.
So he told me...Lucas will refuse it, he'll play with the sippy...even try to pour it out...go on a milk strike...but eventually he will drink it.
He said it's a matter for determination and like most toddlers...Lucas has to make the decision on his own to give it a try.
Yesterday at daycare the teacher told me that at first Lucas was just playing with his cup but some of the other kids started grabbing for it and from that point on he drank from it.
So now that I know that it's okay for him not to have milk if he protests (I give him yogurt and cheese as well to compensate) and that he DOES know how to use the cup...I find it easier not to give in to him.
