Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
We've been looking for a house in Lindenhurst for a couple months now, and every time we find one that we like, it's being taken off the market. So we're getting very frustrated. I was advised by many people to stay south of Sunrise, since north is a little icky. We found a gorgeous house, but it is north of sunrise. I was wondering, is it really that bad? And what about it makes it "icky"?

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
can you give a couple of street names around where you are looking. there is sort of a grey area in N. Lindy.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
It's West of Wellwood, just south of 109. It's off of Copaigue Rd.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
I live in Lindenhurst, south of sunrise and east of Wellwood and quite frankly, the only areas I would recommend living are Merridale Park or south of Montauk. Otherwise, I'm not a fan at all of the rest of the neighborhoods, including my own. That isn't meant to offend anybody, that's JMHO.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
Well we live on the border of West Babylon, south of 109 & east of Sunrise hwy. We love it and the neighborhood is very nice and we are in the Daniel SD. We didn't want to be too south because of the flooding and having to pay for flood insurance. But south lindenhurst is very nice as well.
Where is the Merridale Park area?

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
My grandmother passed away and her house is for sale in Lindenhurst. I think it's on MLS. It's south of Sunrise, North of Montauk.

I agree. I also hate to sound like a broken record, but the planes drive me insane too.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
i live in "north-west"merridale park and selling.
I agree merridale is an awesome area, it's just west of wellwood from montauk to about hoffman, but it stops pretty much by broadway (someone correct me if i am wrong).
BJ- where is the house that your family lives (lived) in? i know that you said that before, but i don't have a plane issue... ONLY when the blue angels are here when they fly over my house.. other than that, i guess i am not in the same flight path as your family. just curious, is all....

I think I am in the flight pattern too but it isn't every day. I guess it changes with the wind or whatever. It doesn't really bother me. The only time I notice it is when I'm outside. But sometimes the flights come in so low that I can actually see inside the windows of the lear jet.
Merridale park is the area South of Hoffman, north of Montauk, west of Wellwood and east of Broadway. I THINK it's the West Gates Elementary school area.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
I grew up in the Lighthouse Point neighborhood and now live in the Venetian Shores neighborhood.
I would definitely buy a house in Lindy- but I'm very particular about neighborhoods. The blocks that are around Babylon Town Hall (SOUTH of Straight Path) aren't bad- but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else N. of Sunrise. I wouldn't buy anywhere North of Straight Path.
Meridale Park would be the ideal neighborhood for me- or the neighborhood south of Hoffman/ North of Montauk and East of Delaware.
I would also buy in either Lighthouse Point or Venetian Shores.

Re: Lindenhurst-North of Sunrise
i lived in lighthouse point too. it was a very "summer" neighborhood. it was so cool living there. My husband & I (my fiance then) were like the block mayors. Everyone came to our house and hung out (remember from another post it was the tiniest house EVER), it was like we brought everyone together. before we moved there, the neighbors didn't really talk to each other.
ahh... what a lovely time that was...
I guess my point is, ANY neighborhood can be great, then your neighbors sell, you don't like your new ones and the block isn't as nice anymore. AND, the vice versa can happen, where you hate your neighbors, they sell and now you love them. people that are piggy on the block could sell to people who aren't piggy and so on, and so on... you just never know.
