Maybe its me being pregnant and moody...but

we are one income, live conservatively. fine.

I am getting a surprise gift for Christmas..its coming out of our savings which we never touch, and he's been putting money aside for it each week.

If I were to touch our savings, it would be for a new camera...yet this nut is purchasing my gift from a wilderness store!

watch, kindle, camera...I have a list believe me.

He is really excited about this surprise, but we only camp 2 nights a year, and I do it to be nice and fun.

And...I have an effing hunch this guy bought me a freaking canoe. I have never in my life had the need to canoe...especially my own...especially with a newborn.

do I act happy on Christmas or scream where is my camera??
I would much rather get nothing then a canoe because I cheap and hate the thought of him borrowing money from savings.

today while wrapping gifts, a package comes to door from REI

he was home...and said oh great its our free gift with the points we got from my purchase. So its def $$ spent at REI.

It is a canopy/tent huge thing that I have wanted for the beach...camping...so that was good. Def somhiething on my list...last time we vacationed at beach with friends this thing was great for the kids.

so, atleast the free points gift was something i wanted.

If it were me, I'd tell DH the truth.
If it's disposable funds and he's buying a canoe, that's just a gift you don't really like, but if he's borrowing from the savings that we never touch ..........it should be for something you really want and will USE .......otherwise, IMO it's a waste of money

i would be upset if DH bought me something expensive that I totally didn't want if we were on a budget.

Are you sure that's what he's getting you? what would make him think that's what you wanted?

How do you know it's from the wilderness store??? That would kill me too pregnant or not. I'd have to say something now (pretty clearly and repeat it if its already been said) like, "you know, if you're going to spend money from savings, the thing I would REALLY appreciate most is a camera...." Otherwise, that canoe is always going to piss you off.

DH got me a pink nano one christmas bc he thought i'd like pink... except i already had an ipod that i had used maybe 5 times. i've used the nano ONCE in THREE years and it still irks me but he was so excited about it, i've never said anything since what was done was done and why hurt his feelings after the fact. Guys are weird and sometimes when they give gifts i dont think they really put themselves in our shoes as to what we'd truly use/like.

I went to type candle in my search engine and canoe popped up.

he says trust him, its something he hopes i like. I am not sure what that sentence even means.

I think I have to get it out of my head that this is my gift when he is probably thinking its a family fun gift...but a camera would make more sense with a newborn then a canoe.

If you are right, I would love to see a picture of your Tree with a canoe under it and you as a PG mommy sitting in it!

Hopefully he is really really smart and is trying to side track you and the real purchase is something you really want/need.

I will never forget the reaction my dad got the year he bought my mom a microwave for Christmas. It wasn't communicated Christmas morning while we were sitting around the tree, but he heard it loud and clear. She kept the microwave (to be fair it also had a convection oven ) but she did not get any more "functional" gifts that I remember after that.

I'd be honest. From what I know about canoes, they aren't cheap and I'm with you - I'd rather he not get anything than that if I didn't want it.

we have REI here.

He is way cheaper then me. He lives for REI points. That's the way he gets my kid's free keens each summer.

I have the REI membership card since I purchased something there last. So I am guessing he did not want to ask me for it...so instead he was attacking the mailbox everyday.

My sister thinks she is doing something nice, picks up mail. I see an REI envelope...open, hoping for a coupon...and its a replacement membership card.

The next morning card disappeared and he asked me to stay away from mail.

Its weird, we have so much camping gear since he is a craigslist nut. I can't imagine what the gift is.

lol my dh is usually great with gifts but once in a while he gets me something HE wants and is convinced i'll love it. i usually do the passive aggressive thing and tell him i love it but xyz would have been great too.
if it really is something crazy, return it and just explain it to him. get what u want, u deserve it!

A canoe is going back. I can't even believe this is my life. Even if its not my gift, but a family gift...there are sooo many things. double stroller...
