going to pick up our 1/4 cow tomorrow~~~~ UPDATED with a roundabout idea of what was included
the details, if anyone is interested.
The hanging weight of your animal was 549 pounds--one quarter equaled 137.25 pounds. The price for your order is $4.65 per pound of hanging weight. Total price is $4.65 X 137.25= $638.00
we are splitting the quarter. if anyone is interested, I can jot done the exact cuts and amounts and post on Monday.

I wish I had a freezer big enough to hold that much meat. Seems like a good deal

Oooh, please post the cuts on Monday. I've been trying to convince my parents to buy 1/4 with me but so far it's not working. Still trying though.

How much freezer space does this require?

Love this idea....
Is it grass-fed? Antibiotic free?
Regular cow?
Just curious as this isn't an option for me now (in apt) but one day would love to do this.

Ooooh, please share the cuts and amounts you receive! I really need to contact them to place an order. How long does it take you to go through your share? I'm wondering if a quarter is too much for us and we should find someone to split it with.

Re: going to pick up our 1/4 cow tomorrow~~~~
Hi everyone. so we got out 1/4 and spit it up.
my 1/8 of a cow ($318) yielded us
20 or so lbs of ground beef 1 small eye round roast 1 med-large arm roast 3 packages stew beef cubes (1 lb or so each) sirloin steaks 1 large london broil flank steak NY strip steak delmonico steak filet mignon hanger steak
this is what I remember off the top of my head. everything is vacuum packaged. the steaks are cut in uneven numbers (I think we got 5 pieces of Filet mignon in total, 3 pieces delmonico etc) so we had to get creative with the tradeoffs.
we opted for more ground beef in the summer months in lieu of roasts/ribs/etc.
for the price we paid, we are very happy with the yield. this should see us through until at least the last fall, depending on how much we bbq.
I actually have 2 packages of Filet mignon left over from our last order that I am going to make for us on Saturday.
as for space. we were able to fit all of the meat in our fairly empty freezer. we have a decent sized top freezer-it came with the house so I don't know the specs.
the entire bottom is filled with packages of ground beef and roasts, the steaks are filling up the room on the top shelf.
and yes, the beef is certified grass-fed organic.
HTH!!

I've been wanting to do this for a while but everyone I've asked is not interested in purchasing so much meat so if anyone is interested in splitting it please send me an fm. I will buy a small freezer and probably keep it in my basement.

Lisa, we do it upstate in Orange County. there are a few places in my area but we have been really happy so far with Kezialain Farm
they send cattle to be butchered a few times a year and you pick up at their farm (though I think you could make other arrangements).
