Nikon users - question

I know everyone swears by either the D40, D60, etc...

Do any of these SLR cameras have video capability??

Thanks...

Ugh...can't afford that one of course.

Do you know if any of the canons have it that is in the same price range as the D40 or D60?

The D90 is the first DSLR to have it so, no... Canon hasn't come out with one yet.

I thought they did?

I'm actually being talked out of the D90.

Why?

I am waiting for a couple more years for the technology to be a bit better and the price cheaper.

My DH's co-worker is a huge camera buff.

He said the D90's video isn't up to HD quality and it will be phased out quickly to get up to speed with Canon's new model.

He is convincing me to upgrade to the D200, which while discontinued, is still semi-pro & dropped dramatically in price since the D90 introduction.

My co-worker who is also a huge camera guy said go for the D90. It has live view (similar to a point & shoot where you can see through the LCD screen) , which is convenient in crowds. The sensor is the same technology that's in the D300 - not only self cleaning. It also has a higher ISO capability with less noise (translation, I can take indoor photos without a flash & not get that graininess). On top of that, the video is a nice perk that I can take a 5 minute video & stick it on youtube. You can't compare the video available to a traditional one or the one that Nikon will likely upgrade to in the next generation.

I'm very conflicted...

to the OP: I'd say opt for the D40 or D60 as it's a camera you can grow into as you improve your skills.

Yep they do - forgot about the 5D Mark II but I don't think it's officially out yet? You have to pre-order right?

Are you thinking of jumping ship to Canon???

ETA: The 5D is full format Pro though. You aren't getting video from Canon in a prosumer model like the D90 - not just yet anyway.

Phew!! For a second there I thought I'd have to go grab Lorimarie and stage an intervention or something Chat Icon

Especially since they just (today) announced the D3X which already beat the Mark II in megapixels - not that I could ever afford it but Go NIKON!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
