We are planning to go next month but after reading the coxsackie thread now I'm getting nervous, especially because I'll be 7 months pregnant at the time and it seems Coxsackie is dangerous for pregnant women. Would you still go? I really wanted my 3.5 year old to see the characters and have a fun trip before his world is rocked by a new sibling.

Re: Spinoff: Coxsackie and Sesame Place

I can't speak to any outbreaks there etc but if you are nervous can you just go and not do the water part?

Is there enough to do there without the water part or is that like a major thing there?

I know when we go to Dutch Wonderland you can totally skip the water park area if you wanted to and have plenty to do with the dry rides, etc

My daughter got Cosackie in the dead of Winter and not one other person had it at daycare. We have no idea how or where she got it. A fluke thing. Prior to this I was so anxious about it during Summer.

Go and have fun and wash hands alot.

We've been at least 6 times and never caught it there. I wouldn't let that stop you at all. Go and enjoy. Half the women there seem to be pregnant.

The only time my kid ever caught coxsackie was from a family wedding. Unless you never leave the house you can be exposed to anything anywhere.

I always go to Sesame Place for the rides, the characters, etc. We never touch the water rides for a multitude of reasons. You just do not need to do it.

The water is a pretty major thing... especially in July. But I would still go. I don't think you're any more or less likely to get coxsackie from Sesame Place than from anywhere else (other amusement parks, daycare, playgrounds, pools, etc.)

Re: Spinoff: Coxsackie and Sesame Place

As long as you plan on having your 3.5 year old go in a pool this summer, there’s a risk of getting coxsackie. I wouldn’t not go just because of that, because there’s a possibility of getting it even when you’re home.

Now......... honestly the reason I wouldn’t go to sesame while 7 months pregnant is more because walking around a theme park in the heat at 7 months sounds pretty bad lol.. and I just had a baby 12 days ago so I get it, and I know I wouldn’t have wanted to do that 2 months ago. I also understand not wanting to deprive your child of fun just because you’re pregnant and also wanting to do something fun before the baby arrives.... I’m just saying if you decide not to go, don’t not go because of the chance of getting coxsackie. He can get it anyway. Just be smart.. wipe down hands often.. and use an alcohol based hand sanitizer prior to eating. I try not to overuse those things with my DS but I make special considerations lol.

When exactly are you due? If you mainly want your 3.5 year old to enjoy the characters, they do a special Halloween thing there, obviously without water stuffs Might be a nice thing to take the baby to as well since it’s all outdoors and you don’t have to worry about the heat, being pregnant.....

Thanks for the response. We go to our public pool a lot so you're right that he could get it there too.

I'm also worried about not feeling up to walking around so much but I'm hoping I can do it. It's only 3 weeks from now and I'm still feeling decent so hopefully I'll be ok. I reserved the refundable room so I can cancel up to 3 days before if I change my mind.

I'm due in mid September so I don't know if we'll be up for the trip a month later for the Halloween event. My son was a very difficult newborn and I'm anxious this new baby will be the same.

I went at 7 months pregnant as a day trip and it was doable. We did VIP parking so we had easy access to the car if I got hot or needed a break. We didn’t do the characters meal but I definitely recommend doing that since it’s 1.5 hours of air conditioning. I do recommend going during the week.

We just went to Sesame Place a few days ago and it all seemed very clean to me, including all the water rides. But I've heard that as it gets later in the summer the water starts to get dirtier. I guess going early in the season when all the water is fresh helps.

That is so odd because the water should be constantly circulating, filtered and also chemically treated and tested many times a day. It shouldn't be getting old or dirty.
A place like that should have strict controls in place and also should be inspected regularly by the Board of Health.
I'm really surprised it is not

We've gone in June and we've gone in August and I never noticed a difference. The shallow entrance to the big pool and the little toddler pool always skeeve me bc they get so warm but the main part of the big splash pool and the water rides are always fine.

I agree. I would think the chemicals would kill bacteria, just like in any other pool. But maybe garbage debree ends up in the water and grosses people out? Not sure. Like I said, the water seemed clean to me when we went.

We've been to Sesame Place at the end of August and I found it to be very clean. It's not like they only clean it at the beginning of the summer and then leave it to get dirty all summer long. They follow strict rules and I would not be concerned going there.

Re: Spinoff: Coxsackie and Sesame Place

We’ve been 6 or 7 times and neither of my kids got sick. My daughter got coxsackie at my friends daughter’s bday party that was held in their backyard. One of the guests was supposedly over having it but infected a whole bunch of the kids. I would not avoid sesame place for that reason but not sure I’d want to walk around that pregnant in the heat.

I would just do the dry rides then if you are concerned. We went and the times that the water part was open all we did was the counts splash castle anyway.

We just got back from Sesame and it was super clean. My kids played in the entire water park for 1 full day, everywhere (they wouldn't leave bc it was so hot). I have 3 kids who get everything from pinkeye to strep so I was sure we would get something. Nope, been home a week and all is fine.
