Allergy help

My son is 2 and has the worst seasonal allergies ive ever seen. I thought he had pink eye and wanted to get a rash checked on out his legs and belly on Saturday and he went to the doctors and they gave him drops and said benadryl for rash bc they cant figure out what it is. Hes been stuffed up and now the past few days his eyes are extremely red and puffy from itching them non stop. I cant make him stop itching his eyes, he doesnt get it makes them worse. Ive tried claritiin last night but he was up pretty much all night and I read it can bc of the meds. I also tried allegra the day before but that seemed to do nothing and his eyes were so red and puffy he looks like a different child. I do not know how to help him and he is so uncomfortable. Has anyone else dealt with itchy eyes causing extreme puffiness and redness? Calling the doc again but not sure what else they will do. Thanks

DS has the same. His eyes swell up.

Zaditor eye drops will help the itchiness. Cold compresses will bring down the swelling.

For the allergy meds, pick one and stick to it. It will take a few days to reach it's full effectiveness. And give the meds consistently, even if you don't think his allergies are bad that day. This season and last DS took Zyrtec and it's working great. It's only once every 24 hours so he gets it every night before bed.

Two years ago DS was on Allergra. I've heard good things about Xyzal, too. Benedryl will knock him out, so that's not a good daytime option.

Allergy help

Try giving benadryl at night and the allergy med every morning. Like pp said, it needs time to build up in his system so give one consistently. Thank goodness i grew out of my seasonal allergies but years ago my eye doctor prescribed drops that helped so much. You can also ask about giving visine allergy drops.

Any chance it could be related to the rash though? Dd had viral hives and her whole face got red and swollen.

I literally just took my DD this morning because has this allergy cough that is non stop. She said Zyrtec doesn't need to build up, it works within 5 hours. The others have to build up. I was doing allegra during the day and benadryl at night, but that wasn't doing much. I did give 24 hour Zyrtec last night, and will give it again tonight. It makes her drowsy, so I couldn't give it before school. Hopefully it does the trick for her issue!

Not a mom, but I suffer from seasonal allergies, and this year hit me bad.
If his eyes are affected, wash the eyelashes when he comes inside, and again before he goes to bed.
Pollen sticks to them, and when he rubs, the pollen gets inside his eyes.

She also takes Claritin (that works best for her this year) and Nasonex each morning. She gets a lot of unexplained rashes and I use hydrocortisone cream on them when they get very uncomfortable.
