Just moved to Lindenhurst, NY - Suffolk county - PreK???

Hi everyone, we just moved to Lindenhurst from NYC. I am not familiar with LI at all and its school rules. Is there a universal preK program? If so, how do i apply for my kid? He just turned 3, and we have time before the next registartion.
Which preK is good in the area? Our house is in 11757 zip code by West Gates. Is this the school my kid will attend?

I have so many questions. I am totally lost. All of my friends live in the city and are not familiar with LI at all. I am relying on you guys!
Thank you

If you are going to public school you don’t pick your kindergarten. You go to the school you are zoned for. Just call the district office. They will tell you what to do.

Lindenhurst does not have universal pre k. I think the district has parent volunteers that do a pre k program 2 mornings a week for about 2 hours in each of the schools. Definitely call the school you are zoned for and they will help you. :)

They offer universal pre-k at Just Kids in Lindenhurst, you can try for the lottery but I dont know when that is. Call the district office and they can give you all that info.

I live in Lindenhurst. There is no universal pre-k. There is free half day pre-k at Just Kids but you need to submit for the lottery to see if you get it. I sent my son to Our Lady of Assumption for pre-k. Where your house is will determine which elementary you go to.

No universal Prek like ohters said its a lottery. They don't take too many kids. Call next week when school is in to see when you submit the application. If I remember correctly last year they offered full time I think 9-2 or 9:30-2:30

Welcome to Lindenhurst! I've heard good things about the Just Kids program, but I didn't bother trying for the lottery (limited spots & I'm an impatient planner - I needed to know where my kids would be going lol). I sent my youngest to pre-k at St. Joseph's in Babylon Village. They have a wonderful program for a reasonable rate. They also offer additional classes that we also put him in (ex. activity/gym class 2x a week and a science club 1 afternoon a week). https://stjosephsnurseryschool.org/

When we lived in Lindenhurst, I sent my son to Grace Methodist for pre-k. They were really great there. It's right on Wellwood towards Montauk Hwy.

If you live close to west gates that will be the school your child will most likely attend. We have 5 elementary schools in the district. The McKenna building is the administration building. You can call them and find out when lottery applications are accepted. I believe it’s in April and you don’t find out until August. We applied but only one of my twins got in so we declined. Then they called us after we were already established at a pre-school to say they can both go but we declined again. The year before your child starts kindergarten you can sign up for the pre-k at your school. It’s a pta run program by parent volunteers1 day a week for 1.5-2 hrs. West gates is on tuesdays currently from 9:15-10:45. It’s basicaly to get your child used to the school. There are several pre schools around. My kids went to St Joseph’s in Babylon and we loved it there. They had the best rate when we were looking and were very affordable when I had all three of mine in there at the same time. They also offer several other classes your child can take in addition to the regular pre-k class. Several of our friends kids went to St. John’s which is on John street and Grace which I believe is on Wellwood and they were very happy as well.
