Looking for some guidance...

I don’t know where to begin, most of you know i am a BCBA so by nature I have a tendency to over analyze things with my kids but also be extremely aware of behavior. That being said, my son has always been very bright. He was in EI when he was younger because he want turning to sound which he was delayed in but obviously has been resolved. He’s 11 months old now, has stopped responding to his name, but perhaps he’s too busy playing or observing what is going on around him. He also waves his hands up and down rapidly while moaning/ humming, he recently starting biting himself, hitting/ banging his head when frustrated and little other things I notice, sniffing everything, especially soft items, moving his food around between his fingers before eating, I took him to a developmental pediatrician in August/ September roughly and reported some of my concerns and I was told they were normal. However at the time the hand waving wasn’t really prominent and he was responding to his name.
My other son doesn’t do these things. I work with older kids and I am not always familiar with the “norm” I’ve really noticed these things within the past 2 weeks is this a developmental thing and changes or should I be concerned and bring him back to a developmental pediatrician?

Looking for some guidance...

It all sounds pretty normal to me for the age. I've always felt like 6 mo-18 mo is such an incredibly frustrating time for babies. They are aware of so much more than they are capable of doing/saying, and i feel like it must be awful for them in so many ways.

I am an occupational therapist and understand your concerns but 11 months is very young
I would ride it out for a month or two and then see where he is at and take it from there
Good Luck!!
ETA - I would incorporate some sign language, ignore bad behavior, reward good behavior, incorporate some sensory play, pay attention to his eye contact, smiling, etc..

Thank you for this, when I engage in play he will look at me, smile, he does have a social smile, plays peek a boo and laughs. He loves water and we play in the tub everynignt. I redirect the hand “flapping” and he becomes extremely upset. I use a firm no when he makes fists and becomes angry with me. I’ll definitely work on incorporating signs. I am going to have him re-evaluated for EI

You are welcome
I see nothing wrong with having him re-evaluated at a later date. That is what the services are there for!!! I encourage parents to get children evaluated at multiple points if there are concerns because the sooner anything is identified services can start and progress is at its optimal period!!!!
I would maybe try to redirect the flapping into clapping. I try to use signs like more, give me, help me, milk, eat etc....
Good luck and feel free to message me with any questions- I am happy to help if I can

Trust your mommy instinct. I would push to get an eval. The sooner you can begin services the better.
