video gaming systems

I am considering getting a video gaming system for my kids for Christmas - ds is 5, dd is 7. I am more interested in the interactive type games like karaoke, dancing, fun race car driving (not grand theft auto) and definitely not interested in anything they could play "online". Something fun and interactive we all could play together and enjoy as a family. I am so clueless as to even what systems are out there now. Any suggestions on what to look into?

I would look into the Nintendo Switch. We have an X-Box and I don't find it super family friendly.

Look into the WiiU. The Nintendo Switch is the newest nintendo platform but I doubt that they have as many games for the younger set yet as it was released this year. Nintendo makes great family games like Mario Kart and the Mario world franchise.

Re: video gaming systems

I also recommend a Nintendo system. I have a Wii and a WiiU, and a PS4. DS's friend got a Switch when it came out.

Nintendo targets more family-friendly games. They can't go toe-to-toe with Sony (PS4) and Microsoft (Xbox One) as far as realistic first-person shooter games, so they don't even try.

Plus, since the Switch is the newest console out, the WiiU will be much cheaper. However, it will be hard to find a new console. Most of what's out there is used or Factory Refurbished.

If you do want to get a new console, and have new games for it, the Switch does have over 100 games available already, and more all the time.

The Switch is a console and a portable device in one, which may be another nice feature you'd be interested in.

I most likely will be getting a Switch at some point.

Definitely a Wii U. The Switch is on my son's list, but there aren't nearly as many games as his Wii U, and the games you can often find cheaper for the Wii U. The Switch games are still like $60 each.
